just finished up water testing, thinking of a 5 gallon water change and see what magnesium does after. I dose AFR and don't think an increase would be good for calcium.

phos - 1.0
nitrate - 35
dKh - 9
ph - 8.15
mag - 1170
calcium - 440

I've had some low magnesium for a while. I was thinking about addressing it. It usually stays around 1200. Would you consider this low and try to raise it? Just trying to pick your brain, bc I'm having the same issue. I'm wondering what low mag would effect negatively.

don't know adverse effects of low, but I shoot for 1200 to 1400 magnesium

I was thinking of dosing it, if regular water changes with the I.O. reef crystals cant keep it up higher

A coral vendor I purchase from, suggested my mag was low at 1200, and I kind of disagree with them. Mag is one that I don't know as much about.

Magnesium test kits of all kinds are reputed very inaccurate.
Hanna included.
I've never had good luck with them and I've tried 3.
I eventually gave up since Magnesium is not really that important to what I do in my tank.
What I do know is my mangroves thrive on extra Magnesium so I do add a quarter cup of liquid Magnesium after every water change.
I don't test for it I just add.
Not very bright I know but that's all I got on Magnesium.
Through all my research I've definitely noticed Magnesium is one of the harder elements to overdose.

I agree with this I don’t test it anymore with the Hanna but when my trident reads about 1200 I manually ad it to the tank shooting for 1450 On the brs calculator

Although I did have a LFS tell me they run elevated mag on there show tank because it makes unwanted algea hard to grow don’t know the truth behind that but always thought it was interesting because I never heard of it talked about before

That's awesome! I didn't get any goni, I heard they were hard. Otherwise I'd love the movement

My goni has been happy for the entire time I've had it. I ordered more gonis Sunday night, and now the green goni has been closed yesterday and today. No idea why, the red goni is happy (well, at least I think). I did an amino acid and reef roids dip for about 7 minutes, I'll see if that helps. I also Dosed aquaforest components a,b and c which raises many things but most importantly, iron, iodine and manganese which are all very important to gonis. I also Dosed phyto to see if that helps.
