Mag is actually pretty important. My mag got down to 1000 and my hammer definitely did not like it.

You can't have stable alk and ca without mag around the 1400 range. 1200 isn't that much of a concern but I would definitely raise it to at least 1350.

My torches, Frogspawn and hammers seem to thrive when I keep it at 1400 or a little higher.

I have seen the effect of less frequent water changes to my tank, its the goni's, they are not closed but don't extend like they did before. I guess its my water getting depleted because I held off of a couple of water changes to bring my phos and nitrates up when fighting dino's.

I use salifert too. For long time, I stayed at 1200 but I have increased above 1400. Hammers seems to split heads since.

That one seems to be the most accurate.
I've used seachem, hanna and salifert and they all read different.
Hanna was by far the worst of them all.

Yes, I dose every 2 or 3 days, I think 3 or 4 ml.

Good to know. I need to buy test kits now that I'm starting to add coral. Up to now I've just taken water to the LFS for testing (apart from ICP tests when I had the copper issue) and tried to keep up on water changes.

I eventually gave up since Magnesium is not really that important to what I do in my tank.
What I do know is my mangroves thrive on extra Magnesium so I do add a quarter cup of liquid Magnesium after every water change.
I don't test for it I just add.
Not very bright I know but that's all I got on Magnesium.
Through all my research I've definitely noticed Magnesium is one of the harder elements to overdose.

That's great info Joel. Obviously you're doing something right. I may try to up it a bit. I agree about the testing. I'm going by an app test, and while I don't trust it for 100%, it does show the numbers to be consistently low.

Walker, this is one coral that I just can't keep, sadly. It is such a beautiful coral and I love them. I will say, don't be discouraged because it's closed today. My latest attempt has been closed for weeks now. I'll get just a tiny pop of polyps once in a while. Just enough to show life

Also @WalkerLovesTheOcean I hope your golden boy is still doing well. Mine is toast sadly. That's why I'm asking about magnesium. The seller said this may have been the issue. I'm not so sure.
