Stomatella are usually hitchhikers (really really good ones). Trochus are similar to Astrea but they're smoother shelled. Mine are Red Banded Trochus.

So should I have gotten some of the astrea?

Astrea are decent but can't flip themselves back over if they get upside down.

I don’t do astrea for the reason @tbrown stated. You constantly have to monitor the and right them when they fall upside down and the ones you can’t see or reach die because of it.

I don’t do astrea for the reason @tbrown stated. You constantly have to monitor the and right them when they fall upside down and the ones you can’t see or reach die because of it.

I also don’t do snail I have to constantly upright

Slow and patient is the best way to go in this hobby. Rushing stuff never works out.

I wont give up! I think this will be a good escape goat even if I can't do everything I want with the hobby. Hoping I can find a local club.

@Calmwaters Amanda, when I first dove into keeping a tank, I learned through the BRS video series that literally takes you week to week on what to do. Whether that’s hardware, fish, corals, food, additives, methodologies, etc.

I have continued to revisit as I come to new milestones in my tank’s maturity.

Be warned, 100’s of videos but they have organized by playlist and topic is clearly stated.

Maybe take the weekend to just view the offerings and see if it’s a knowledge base that wil help you.

There are other good companies that have these types of videos that I also follow delintly, but BRS is a chronological 101 on saltwater reefing to start with.

And don’t misunderstand me, I also utilize R2R a lot and obviously this group of people. You need both!

They’ve down lots of videos dedicated to CUC. I visit those a lot cause it’s hard to remember- lol.

Conch, Nassarius, Margarita, Nerites, Ceriths, Trochus, Stomatella, and hermit crabs are my CUC. I've tried Peppermint Shrimp but so has my Melanurus Wrasse... I have had Emerald Crabs successfully but I think they're all gone.

I've got 4 or 5 in my 125 that are going on 2 years old almost.
