Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
Note to self: when u worked two days at LFS and then watched the grand babies a few days later; this causes two things:

A) you literally eat dinner like an HS linebacker, crash with cookie in hand by 8:30pm and THEN wake up at 3am all perky wondering if fish want to wake up and play

B) Since no human nor animal is available, you decide to write novels on R2R while chowing on cereal instead of just going back to bed like a mature human. And wait for 7am because you think that’s the “appropriate” time to have a cup of coffee…
Then I'm highly inappropriate because I'm usually done with the first cup by 6:15 and trying to work on my second cup.

Hah! Looks at clock, 5:53am, good enough for Tim, good enough for Jen! Runs to kitchen….

Like my new sig line Timmy?!?

Normally have my 1st cup at 5:00 so I guess we are both inappropriate lol

I have two one on each side of the tank not sure where I should put another one to make it work. Unless maybe I put two, one on each side, on the back beside the overflows?
I have a jebao ow20 on each side of glass, at the back corner pointing forward, ow10 on back glass pointing forward.
Also have jebao return with feed mode if I need it.
My fish eat so fast it doesn't matter but I find that flow keeps it out of the box.

Good morning my friends!

The famed Sky-Hook! My go-to playing 1:1 w/brothers - never made one shot!

Used to make my brother’s laugh - back in early 80’s told them all I need was thise new Reebok’s (pink please); and I could Dunk a basketball. They took on the bet and got me some for Christmas. They graciously said, all I needed to do to win, was jump high enough to touch the rim, that’s all.

HAH - I thought no problem! It’s been 40 yrs, still trying… and a lot of home-baked goods have been given to them for losing.

I’ve got the pic somewhere of that day.

sounds like a good time

Hi Parker,

Regarding Skimmer, just follow directions- I believe you keep it on. Don’t alter what directions say just cause you think it’s good.

I didn’t realize you have a reefmat like I do. Not only did I keep it on, but I increased the inches on the auto-advance to 1.0- 1.3 inches. I ran through a whole roll as it was picking up all the GHA.

I recommend you do a big manual removal of GHA and then do 20% water change right before you add Flux. Don’t worry about nitrates/phoshates during treatment. As long as you are diligently removing the die-off of GHA (grey stuff still on rocks/sand and the loose stuff floating in water, you’ll be ok on parameters.

The GHA doesn’t go anywhere unless you remove it.

Regarding amount of Flux to use; you and I are basically the same in total water volume and rock/ sand. Close enough. I used the entire bottle of powder except for a smidge. Since you are using capsules that you have to take the powder out of, I would use the all and on the last one, use 75%. But to be honest, I don’t think it will hurt to use it all. The directions will say if it’s a no no.

You won’t really have “extra” and if you did cause your tank was smaller, you Would NOT use extra.
Ok. Some at the fish store told me to turn it off. I will see what the directions are on the Flux RX tomorrow.

I will increase the reef mat roll production.

I will do some more manual removal before I add it in and I will do a water change.

I think I will probably use all, maybe like 90%.

Also I am not using those pills. I ordered the Flux RX and it is arriving tomorrow.

Terrific!!! You got this Parker! It’s going to be two weeks of extra time on your tank (not easy w/school and sports); but the end results will be worth it.

Here are the Flow videos. Quite a few, I know. Most people would watch one and probably get what they need; however I learn by repetition; with information presented in different formats, i..e, Academic. Analogous, Humorous. This is especially true on science subjects.

This is a 3-part series by Taras at TSA:

BRS - I like that they combined science, showed some visuals and talked about different products and how they’re best used

WWC - Josh has started do more informational videos and I love that he just talks in layman’s terms. His videos aren’t overly long and to the point

Hope this helps!

Thank you! I will watch on my lunch break.

Yeah I’m just going to have to spend time cleaning all of the dead hair algae.

You said it turns gray but I still have to pick it off the rocks?

Some turns grey, some doesn’t. No matter the color, keep picking off the GHA daily. Easier to keep up with. And don’t forget to take fish net and scoop loose stuff in water daily. Better for filtration system that it doesn’t all go down overflow. Some will, obviously, so don’t stress about that

Ok will do. But it doesn’t just dissolve or disintegrate in the water? Does it just stay as dead chunks?
