Added 10 Florida ceriths instead of dwarfs. I just wish this guy sold more rock dwelling snails. What do y'all reccomend for that type of snail?

What do you mean by rock dwelling, Astrea, Trochus, Turbos, and Ceriths will all spend time grazing the rocks, if they can.

Here is the misconception many have about snails: snails will not eliminate the algae in you tank. With the somewhat exception of Turbos, snails cannot munch down long algae, by long I mean anything more than like beard stubble long. They will graze the glass instead. Even tangs, foxfaces, et. al. will not go after long algae. So adding CuC will not fix an algae problem BUT, and it is a huge but, they will control the algae after YOU pluck it.

I can guarantee you that, with the exception of omnivores like Nassarius and Bumblebees, if your snails are alive they are eating algae. But they are not going to do your job for you. You need to make it short enough that they can eat it. Then they will prevent it from coming back.

So the plan is.. THIS WEEKEND scrub rocks for the 6th time now. All of them, do an internal scrub of the bases that are hard to reach. After or before this go to LFS and get tests done. Buy carbon and problably some phosguard, in the following two weeks when baby GHA pops up dose fluanzacole to get it while it's weak. After that internal scrub so I don't have to keep dosing.

Im nor familiar with fluanzacole Cam, but all of the rest sounds spot on to me.

It's Flux Rx or Reef Flux. It's an antibiotic (or something) that they use to treat some fish diseases which also had the added benefit of killing algae.

I use both, my Nerites tend to go walk-about and spend much of their time cleaning things like the tank cover. When they are in the water they are great though.

I have Nerites and Trochus as my go to snails. For rock dwellers, I prefer Nerites. For utilitarian snails I prefer Trochus. For sand and rock i prefer Ceriths, for glass and rocks I prefer Trochus, for the rocks only I prefer Nerites. Trochus end up on my rocks, sand, glass, and frag racks, Nerites rarely leave the rocks in my own experience (except for my freshwater Nerites).

For defense against wrasses in prefer Nerites and Trochus.

Without wrasses, Stomatellas are my go to.

Urchins are great, the only CuC I know of that can leave a chunk of rock like it was just quarried. I don't use them in my 100 though because if they decide to panel surf they really mess up the acrylic panels. In a glass tank they are one of my first go-tos.

Same with my tux. He eats the coraline off the live rock.

I was actually going to ask this question before we all started talking about cuc's this morning. What are everyone's thoughts on hermits? I started my tank with a bunch of dwarf hermits and 2 Mexican turbos. But as my tank has aged, I prefer snails. I feel like nassarius and bumblebee can handle a lot of the "crab work". Does anyone run both? Is anyone snail only? Id like to optimize my cuc as im running out of living quarters for them.

It’s an anti fungal that by a mechanism I don’t know interferes with the algae cell wall’s integrity.
