What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
Couldn't that was 66 and I was doing 65, I figured it was better to cheat earlier than later, maybe not.
Good morning Tom!

Good morning everyone!

Over in the reef squad I do a daily encouragement post Monday-Friday. Figured I would start cross posting them here as well (starting Monday)

However I’m going to do something special with all of you. Daily (if I don’t forget or don’t get busy) I’m going to send over a song recommendation. Generally it’s going to be rock category just because that’s what I’m most familiar with.

Fantastic! Thanks for adding to the Smorgasbord sound. We'll all be excited to see what you post. Rush is a fantastic start.

Good morning, all you Smorgs!

Been a little bit absent the past several days. That filthy thing called work has demanded way more time than I care to mention. Another busy weekend planned and then have to jump back into the car to head to the other side of the state Sunday night. Why? See that dirty word above.

Stereos: my dad bought a new system the year he and my mom got married, 1956. It consisted of an H.H. Scott amp, (sorry as I cannot recall the model number) a Garrard 301 turntable and JBL
Hartsfield speakers. Through the years there were any number of tubes that needed replacing, parts replaced on the turntable and NOTHING done to the speakers. My dad died in 2021 and used the system, on the regular, until about a year before his death. We moved my mom to Texas, last year, and it pains me to disclose that one of my older sisters got rid of the system before I had a chance to tell her not to. And by “got rid of”, I mean it all went into a dumpster. Broke my heart. Still causes foul thinking now.

Back in 1990, I bought a complete McIntosh system. I had that until I lost it in a poker game in 2010. After that, bought Harmon Kardon system which I had until moving here, to Florida, 4 years ago. What I have now isn’t worth mentioning but it gets the job done.
That was quite a stereo for that time. H.H. Scott was really good. Too bad its gone, with the total insanity of the 'vintage' audio scene that would probably be worth a tank full of money today (2k for a mid-range Thorens turntable, 4-8k for a Nakamichi Dragon?--nuts).

McIntosh was one of those someday brands for me but never got there but HK, great stuff back then. I think HK made the absolute best AV Receivers on the market back in late 90 till 2015 or so. I bought a small Harmon Kardon FM receiver from a professor while in college that I kept for over twenty years. It was small, only maybe 3 inches high, only had phono and tape inputs and was low power, but it had the sweetest sound of any gear I ever owned when paired with some Klipsch bookshelf speakers. It also had a kind of unique (at least I never saw it on another unit) FM section. Instead of a large tuning dial it had five small vertical tuning dials at the right end with push buttons to select which of the five 'presets' you wanted. My first two AV Receivers were also HKs.

I really liked the Yamaha gear but it was very clinical. I originally had the two Yamaha power amps paired to JBL studio monitors but the sound was like dry-toast. Back to Klipsch. I also didn't like Yamaha's tuners and went with Pioneer instead.

Now I just listen to YT on my laptop or if I'm in the mood for Christmas music or a jazz binge I may break open the cd cabinet and pop them in the blue-ray player.

Luis, I need all your tips on making hammers look like that..
I can share my secret for how to make them look like that. Buy them like that and take the photos quick before they get a chance for me to kill them.

One thing I miss about northern Ohio was all the great Polish food. P A R M A!!
It’s still here if you want to visit!

Well another rough night for Duke, he has been like this since I woke. He went out with his boys partying last night, I don’t know when he got in but probably after the bars closed. I hope he didn’t drive!

I know what you mean about the prices of gear Tom. I have a modern turn table, mom's console, and a couple of towers from the 70s. Nothing extravagant or expensive. My joy is in the hunt for the vinyl themselves. I love looking for the old stuff and hearing it come back to life for new generations
I kept wanting to go back and respond to this. I'm finally doing it.

I think that LPs are special, not that they sound better, they rarely do, but because of the interaction. I was always an LP first, tape second, cd last kind of guy. I had a good turntable and a great cassette deck and an okay CD carousel. When I wanted to 'listen' I would go through the whole setting up the record ritual and listen doing nothing else or maybe play a tape if I was too busy to mess with the turntable but if I just wanted background I punched up the 300-CD carousel with a playlist.

Looking for old LPs I would imagine is very rewarding I feel the same way about old books and magazines. I remember around 10 years ago I was looking to replace a really mediocre Samsung AV system and I was in a Best Buy. Right next to the AV Receivers was a small rack with about 50 LPs in it and prominently at the front was Jimi Hendrix Experience. My heart jumped for joy.

Good morning Wes, did Weston get all settled in?

He finally made it to the seminary at 10:15 pm on Friday our time, 12:15 am on Saturday Wynonna, MN time.

Love this!
By the way if you want 'Safe as Milk' I sold it to either Bookman's in Mesa or Eastside Records in Tempe about 20 years ago. For all I know it is still there (although Eastside was sold and renamed Ghost of Eastside Records but I would imagine they bought the inventory as well).

How exciting, he has to be thrilled!

I want to believe that flow is the first fundamental thing, since in terms of light and parameters they are not so demanding.

I will be really surprised if we have a successful hunting season this year. They are cutting all the trees down for lumber around my favorite field to hunt. At times I would count between 15 and 20 deer in that field of all ages. Without the trees I don't think the deer will come anymore. It makes me sad to see all the trees gone.

I honestly think your right brother. My hammers are the only corals in my tank that im not 100% happy with. And they're the only ones that aren't receiving the flow I want for them

Too bad, I could have sold it to you for a five spot and gotten more than they paid me for it.
