Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
I haven't been able to change the water lol, I went overboard with the amount of salt and I had to add more RO water to be able to balance it, I have to do it today because I don't think I can leave the water with its powerhead until tomorrow, has anyone done it? I mean keep mixing the water from one day to another
Not with red sea Luis.
Don't overmix, hour tops.
You can store it though.
IO purple or reef crystals you can mix for the rest of eternity.
I mix mine starting tonight for Monday.

I always have some blue bucket for emergencies since it mixes clear in 20 minutes.
It will dissipate if overmixed.
I still prefer IO purple bucket over anything else.

I have. I just cover it with a towel to keep junk out of it, don't heat it until a I'm ready to use it and keep the power head going. Never saw any negative effects but I'm sure it depends on the salt mix being used to some extent.
I do this all the time mines in a barrel with a lid that keeps it from evaporating and I just keep a power head in it to keep it moving them the day before I plan on doing a water change I put a heater in it and warm it up until the next day. I'm not sure if it's the right way to do it but it's what I have always done.

Totally fine and many people do it that way.

For the record I use IO reef crystals 😉

So I do have a octopus 110s on the way
Tiny little thing but I think skimmers are great for oxygenation.
Today is the first day in years I didn't magnet the glass, also first day in years not running a skimmer.
I'm a skimmer fanatic but 1 and 1 has to be 2.
I think the lifereef is just too big.

I think probably all the salts made on the market now are probably fine but the IO products are really bulletproof.
The amount of different brands I've used is half a mile long.

Now that you mention it I started using my skimmer again and seem to be having to clean the glass more often on my big tank could that be why? That's the only thing I have changed. On the other hand since I added copepods to my pico I'm not having to clean the glass twice a day now it's every 3 or 4 days which is really nice. Maybe my big tank needs more pods...

It’s good to see a Heiney in your hand, it’s been a long time. Have a great night Luis!
Not what immediately thought!

Skimmers strip a lot of good stuff out of the tank

I’m not one of those is the glass half full or half empty guys. I’m more of is it the right size glass kind of guys. We have a full second half, plenty of time, we can still win this!

I think their new instructions say not to mix for more than four hours mixing. I'm not really sure I buy that. I use blue bucket on this tank and if I leave it overnight I just turn off the pump after I know I'm not going to use it that day whether its twenty minutes or eight hours. Then I turn the pump back on and heat the water just before using it. I've never seen an issue though even if I mix it for a couple of days. Like you said Joel, you can just store it with no problem.
