Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
I was given a small jbl Bluetooth speaker for Christmas. You're right Chris, I couldn't believe how amazing the sound was.
You just reminded me, I loaned a really nice Bluetooth speaker to a friend about five years ago, wonder if he's done with it yet?

That's why I say I don't buy it about 4 hours max. If their salt dissipates that quickly I should have a tank full of dead everything. Saltwater is constantly mixing. I like how easily and quickly blue bucket mixes but Red Sea's marketing hype gives me headaches.
my tank is stable at 1.025. as long as the ATO doesn't run dry. I test it before I do a water change and it's always 1.025. When I clean the skimmer or change the socks, I just mix the creep back in that I see.

Well, it was supposed to be lake day today, my wife has been out there helping prepare the food, 80 degrees and sunny, but my uncle’s ex wife, mother of his son passed away this morning in hospice. She was such a nice person and was invited to all the family events. They are taking the food to her son’s.

I mix 200 ish gallons at a Time and use a pump and 1" poly hose to transfer the water under the house to the sump. I try to do a 40 gallon water change weekly. That's more than 10%, but I figure if I get behind and miss one occasionally I have a buffer
something I've always wondered about is the house sump and plumbing with the salt water. For awhile I would dump it on the weeds but some weeds seem to flourish more with salt water and was afraid I'd attract small critters from the odor. so I dump down the sink usually. Run a lot of water with it to wash it through so it does sit. I have a sewage grinder so that was my concern.

So sorry to hear Kev.

I plumbed a valve from the sump to my septic. I can drain the sump down without turning anything off, and then refill, as long as I don't drain too much at a time.

I started my cube with Imagitarium and Natures Ocean Salt Water then switched to IO Reef and would occasionally go back and forth with laziness. The big tank I started with HW and never did anything else. I just buy when it's on sale. The HW mixes pretty clean and fast without a haze. Though I'm doing the shake method now. mix directly in storage containers during my RO making day and save till I WC. I've had to come up with easy methods for me to do this. No more hose in the tank either to drain and fill. I found the easiest for me is to just use a 1/2 gal pitcher and a towel to contain drips. 20 pitchers out, then pour from the jugs into the pitcher and 20 back into the tank. only the main pump gets turned off in the process. (takes at most 10 minutes) the powerhead are below the line and don't bother turning heater off. storage water is at room temp of 74 degrees and tank is at 76 so I don't even bother heating it anymore.
I used HW for quite a while back in the late 90s. It is another really good salt. It is another one that mixes easily and clean. Read Sea, Tropic Marin and HW all mix easily which matters to me since my wife usually does the mixing now.

I have a soft spot for IO because Bill Kelley was a friend of my father and I used to hang out at the Cleveland Aquarium before Bill left to found the Mystic Aquarium and start Aquarium Systems. I still think it is one of the best overall and most stabile mixes.

I only change 2 gallons a week usually which is around 2.5% of the water volume. It's just easy and quick. I should really be doing around 8 gallons a week but I don't want to overmix my blue bucket.

Good morning my friends! Sorry I got caught up on the water change/no water change thread. Very entertaining.

Is that the same thread that has been going for months?

Use blue bucket? According to red sea it is only viable for four hours 🤣

I usually dump in in our 'yard' (rocks) I figure it should help with weed control.

removes driveway ice too. Though, I don't think you have that issue there!
