I had to do an emergency water change in my pico tank this morning. For some reason overnight the kasa power strip turned off the outlet the filter was plugged into and the water smelled awful and my little shrimp were as close as they could get to the top of the tank. The water smelled awful and the zoas and mushrooms were all closed up as tight as they could be. I didn't have any water ready so I just took about 5 gallons out of my sump on the big tank. I also removed the filter floss and added a bag of carbon. Did I do the right thing? Do you guys think my little sexy shrimp and corals and cuc in there will be ok?

You did the right thing, there's nothing else to do in a case like this and with so little time, everything will be alright

Sounds like you likely caught it in time. I have gone close to 24 hours without water flow and luckily everything made it. I did have a batter powered bubbler but that was it.

Good idea on the carbon too as without flow the soft corals can release stuff into the water which was probably the smell.

Hey @Rocks reef or to any people with experience with higher par LPS! I know you keep your LPS, torches, etc. at pretty high par. Do you have sections that are lower par where you place them initially to acclimate to the higher power light and then move them around or do you have low sections of your tank that are lower par. I did a par map of my tank and the light is pretty powerful even on the sand bed. In the corners I do get less par but assuming I keep the SPS towards the top of the rock would it be reasonable to keep LPS in that front sand bed by slowly acclimating them to the higher par? I could start them out in the back left corner moving them to the front corners which has higher par and then moving them to higher light over time, etc. How long should someone take to acclimate the coral to the higher light. Like should I give them 4-5 days in one spot and then move them. I assume Acros can take the 500 par as well.

No, I did look back over and the text indicates it would be on the front left corner but the picture is different on the main page and what I saw from others with the lid. It's whatever. I am very disappointed with how thin it is as well. I did go with the luxury one too. I won't be getting a lid for a while since I decided to DIY the mesh on the IM Lid for the larger tank to make it 1/8 inch and it came out pretty good, but wow I was disappointed with top lids. Definitely had a way better result with kraken lids even if it looks a bit more boring so them all the way. I found something that can work at least for now. Had to move some corals around but it is what it is.

Quick question for you tim!

I know you rock the Plank auto feeder but do you know if its okay letting the pump run 24/7 or do you have the pump and the food dispensing both controlled. Also curious how many times/amount of time do you feed. I know you have a larger tank but I can scale it down. I think Jojo uses it as well on a smaller tank. I did a mix of food and I planned to start at 15 seconds twice a day, not sure if that sounds like way too much.

I run the pump 24/7. Feed runs 2 minutes twice daily if I recall, but the circulation pump in the tube runs all day every day. Seems like most people these days recommend that. The "during feeding and at least 30 minutes after" is more of a minimum recommendation I believe.

I put everything where it's going to live on day 1 usually, but, like everything else I do, probably don't follow my example...?
