Oh that's right.. 00W did say I don't need to use a tank. This makes it a lot easier. I guess certain types of tubs would do?
Precisely! Materials choice does matter here (“reef safe” plastics) though it is relatively straightforward!

There are countless permutations of tanks that can be used…

Alternatively, I do know that ~27g long aquariums were popular back in the day, around 32”x10.5”x16”… you could cruise the used market for one to pick up, then silicone some glass seam reinforcements into (OLD tanks) before baffling it, and putting it into service?

That's a possibility yes.

Is polyethylene reef friendly?

I'm looking into tubs now, how would I even baffle one of these?

Yup, Rubbermaid Brute trash cans are made of LLDPE (Low Linear Density PolyEthylene), and they’re used in the millions!

This can get a bit more challenging, purely because these plastic materials are often very “slippery” (low surface energy), so special adhesives must be used to physically adhere baffles down!

Alternatives include:

— using a PVC/ABS plastic tub, so you can literally use pipe cement to install PVC/ABS sheet baffles!

— using a silicone or rubber gasket around the perimeter of a baffle, mechanically clamped down to seal by a bar across the top of the tub, assuming it’s made of a plastic not easily adhered to!

Thank you for this.

I looked up your exact dimensions for the tank and I don't think they still exist, but I'm not done looking.

I'm not done looking into tubs either, I'll look into the plastic tubs as well.

I've been searching for a bit.
There's a lot of RV plastic tanks out there but I feel like they'd be too complicated or just not what Id need. I could invest in the bashea and just be done. That's a tank and baffle

Yeah RV tanks have a ton of costly to manufacture pre-molded fittings on them you really don’t need… (though, the compact ones with a booster pump mounted right on them are definitely worth snagging used, they make an awesome water transfer tank!)

Just to play the Devil’s advocate:

At the cost of a bashea sump, what stops you from switching to a pre-drilled “reef ready” tank off the used market which has more favorable tank/stand dimensions? — that would let you address the flooring issue at the same time during the tank transfer!

Money.
I currently don't have an income. I just turned 16 a few months ago.
I have summer jobs but my school schedule doesn't allow me to get jobs during the year.
Plus my parents probably don't want me upgrading, and myself if I were to upgrade I'd go up to 120 gallons so I can keep tangs and angels comfortably.

I saw those predrilled holes in the tanks, that's the main worry. I'll keep looking.

Ok so this may not look like much but I sketched everything. The lines running through are the joists. The rectangle is the tank and the line behind the rectangle is the wall. Behind that is the outside.

I'm pretty sure we've clarified this already but I just wanted to see if that would help even though the drawing is horrible.
Could you send a picture of this drawing under white lights? Parameters?

Here is the cabinet..
Ignore the knocked over doser bottle it's not spilling just got knocked over when I was taking photos.
I also did the width of the cabinet compared to my hand.. it may be under 12.
Man if you ever decide to punch someone, they are going to be thoroughly punched!

Yes it does… probably around 200lbs more!

Thankfully, adding jack posts to the basement isn’t particularly challenging to do! (Assuming you can talk dad into it!)
Does the water shake when you walk? It may not even be the joists making the noise, it could be the subfloor or even the floor itself. Regardless if there are structure concerns with HOB equipment, a sump would be ill-advised as it will add significantly more weight.

That looks like an elevated particle board bottom shelf. I doubt it is solid underneath it. It probably has rabbeted outer supports and a center brace. I would check it carefully before putting a tank on it.

Oh! He’s got a HOB skimmer on the back which is friction fit in there, against the wall behind the tank…

Every time he walks by, or steps in certain areas, the skimmer is rubbing against the wall and squeaking… that means either the wall, or the tank is physically moving as someone walks past it!

Well, I skipped the 9 pages I missed in order to get directly to the good music. However, I do see that @UncommonSense has bounced in and offered some sound suggestions, as usual. Why am I not surprised?
