Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
I was born and raised in the bay area.
I'll always be a west coast dude. ;)
I was not born but raised in Arizona. I'll always be a no-timezone dude.

I slept, ate dreamed baseball.
Never went to dodger stadium but went to pac bell park 10 times a year and the Oakland collesium too.
Bash brothers.
Wait a minute- you a Bay Area boy? I lived there for 30 yrs; just came back down to SoCal during Covid! I hate the Giants, but love their new, old-school style stadium. Big fan of Oakland A’s, spent a lot of time with my brothers in the cheap seats, drinking and eating too much - when prices would allow you to do so!!

Big beer was 2 bucks.
They used to let us walk around and pick our seats.
Never the giants, Jennifer.
Padres!!!

What should I bring it up to?
I'd shoot for 0.1. SPS likes phosphates and alkalinity. Too much alkalinity, not enough phosphates causes tips to burn and to turn white.

You can bring alkalinity down to 8.5 over the next couple of days as well. Alkalinity over 9 is where the tip burn starts taking place without proper phosphates.

Sounds good.
I will get that phosphate up.

Also will increasing the phosphate make my hair algae problem worse? It is bad right now. Do you think the urchin I got will eat this algae?

Can I keep that alk around 9?

What's causing the hair algae? If your nitrates and phosphates are "in check" hair algae usually stays manageable.

I run 8.6 alkalinity, 0.14 phosphates, and 75+ nitrates. I haven't had hair algae in a long time in this tank. Excess iron can cause hair algae, too low of one nutrient and too high of another can cause algae, etc.

Wow, you moved to a destination spot! Mountains and Lakes! Bit envious
Don't be.
I miss the ocean every day.
Here it's quiet, free and relatively peaceful.
The economy is great but the weather sucks.
