Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
What's causing the hair algae? If your nitrates and phosphates are "in check" hair algae usually stays manageable.

IMG_20240205_190637139.jpg

I run 8.6 alkalinity, 0.14 phosphates, and 75+ nitrates. I haven't had hair algae in a long time in this tank. Excess iron can cause hair algae, too low of one nutrient and too high of another can cause algae, etc.
I think my nitrate is fine. Phosphate needs to come up a bit and my nitrate is around 10.

All corals seem happy with where my nitrate is at.
Maybe I should test for iron?
I just don’t understand why it’s so bad.
I can post pics of it tomorrow.

I had a magnet rust in my old 75 that caused a hair algae outbreak. Between the algae and some Monti eating Nudibranches, I pretty much lost half of my corals.

Yes post pics tomorrow.
Test again tomorrow and post results.

Urchins will eat hair algae if that's truly what it is.
@Reef Devils I Added two urchins when I stated to get GHA issue in my tank about 2 months ago. They will indeed eat it, but not super long stuff. Ya gotta still manually remove and they handle the short and hard to see stuff. Took a moment to figure out All the factors as to why after a 3- month, no GHA tank, it went bonkers. Human error and it’s almost now gone. Check out my build thread as I discuss from a newbie perspective. I’ll also be posting an update at the end of next week with full timeline if your interested.

Finally got photos and update on new fish. I’ll post links here for those interested so I keep my build thread active. Otherwise we need to rename this thread, “The Joel, Frank, Tim, Kevin, Katrina, Amanda, Reef Devil, Parker, Remi, Fishy, Jennifer and most of R2R Smorgasbord Thread”! (Don’t know everyone’s name yet - sorry)

I'd like a leopard wrasse, but I also like pod eaters so...
I have 4-5 pod eaters in my nano (3’x16”x1’), one is a leopard wrasse. Nobody is starved yet;
- Spotted Mandarin Dragonet
- Blue Star Leopard Wrasse
- Griessinger Goby
- Rainfords Goby (1 of the pair has vanished)

The Leopard Wrasses will wait for their next meal. They don’t constantly feed unlike mandarins so can be with other pod munchers.

@Calmwaters how's everything going with your new tank?
It's getting clearer each day this is this morning. I ordered the bulkhead fitting it should hopefully be here tomorrow so we can get it running. And good morning everyone!

And look at you with your open sump with cool lighting! Girl, you were busyyy this weekend!

Love the rock scape! I can already imagine fish swimming through the passages!

Don’t forget to post this in your build thread too! We’re following and will comment, and you’ll get exposure to more great people! It’s how I met all of you!

Thank you so much! And I will post it there as well. My feet are still killing me from Saturday I have nerve damage from a back injury that led to surgery and when I over do it the nerves make me pay for it but I don't care it was worth it!

The female blue star leopard wrasse is a showstopper! It’s on my OG stock list, but I have to sit down and reassess entire fish list now that I’m learning more and making some different choices. Cause guess who saw a wittle baby orchid dottyback at her LFS this week.. I am not allowed to see fish in person - I want most of them.

Ok, no more heavy stuff this week, just enjoy the tank coming to life.

Good morning all!

Having young kids I’m no longer a night owl ha. We’re rarely up past 9:30-10, and that’s east coast time.

I’m Will. Nice to meet you!
