Corals "eat" the same things as algae - nitrates and phosphates. Drop those too low and algae can outcompete the corals.

Yes, but you don't actually have to. I've never purchased a sponge and I have a variety. Spores can be on any coral or rock or in the sand or anything you add to your tank. I've got white, pink, red, green, neon yellow, and this black one. Some are toxic to fish and humans, some are good for reef tanks...

Potentially, yes. Sponges can be sensitive. However, spores are amazing critters.

My phos is. 2 or higher, I've only had nitrate below 20 once or twice, I've never tested mag but add once a week for my mangroves.
Alk is 6-9 if I pay attention and I try to keep ph over 8 with occasional luck.
I have a trigger and feed heavy and skim 24/7.
I have algea everywhere but everything is happy. :smiling-face:

Oh thank goodness! I thought I was way off. So what would you guys do if these were your readings?

When mine are a bit high, I add more consumers. Corals, nems, macroalgae all contribute to consumption. Meanwhile, chip away at the algae with manual removal and CUC.
