@tbrown If you have a multimeter you can check the condenser motor and also the capacitor if it has one, I can guide you to do it, it is important to know if you should change the condenser motor or if only replacing the capacitor works, although if I remember correctly the last time you had to put oil in the motor and that is not a good sign.

We replaced the capacitor for good measure already before we replaced the condenser fan motor. The new motor also came with a secondary inline capacitor which we wired in. The condenser fan kicks on everytime and stays running, it's just blowing 75 instead of 60. It ran a lot last night and it was raining and hot. I can check for a leak this evening when I get home if it doesn't rain (clay roofs with rain aren't safe to climb on...)

What freon does the a/c use? But where is it blowing 75°, through the blower motor?

75 is coming out of the vents is what my wife said. It uses the "cheaper" freon and my father-in-law has (I think he said) 5 gallons of it and his neighbor has the gauges. My buddy is an A/C technician as well.

If the unit has a leak, try to find it because otherwise the freon will go out again, you have to have it because the freon is not consumed or gets old, the same freon could be in the equipment for the useful life of the unit

Thanks! There is some oily spots so I have an idea where the leak is if there is one. I'll spray it with some soapy water if I get up there this evening.

Look where there is oil, whenever there is a leak there is oil nearby, you run your finger and if it is oil, look near there, the soap is a good idea

I would also have to plumb it myself... how hard would that be? Drilling the tank, creating the sump, etc.
