I have a generator but I should get a standby generator. I'm an electrician so the install part is free and through work I can get a good price, install myself, and still get the warranty. Oh BTW just checked out your build thread and you have and awesome setup bud!

My husband is a builder and an electrician as well! It's great because when he built our house he put outlets in all the right places. Lol

I am so glad we have a generator it gives me peace of mind. What I do when we lose power more than a couple of hours is use it for the tanks for about 30 minutes to an hour every few hours. So far it has worked it helps that they are all in the living room and we have a gas fireplace that heats it well in there if we lose power.

I have a wood stove so that helps, unfortunately my tank is a huge power draw and will trip my generator if I have everything on and the well pump kicks on, so I usually turn off the lights and one of the heaters. Does enough to keep things stable

My fish room is going to be so much better. My basement doesn't have nearly enough circuits and I'm constantly running cords for stuff. That room is going to be awesome!

It's a 5500w inverter generator lol I'm not going to buy a bigger one till I can buy a standby lol. I just realized my heaters draw 9.5amp when they are running together :oops: so I'm building my fish room and heating it so that hopefully my tank doesn't cool down as fast and maybe conserves a bit of electricity!

The only thing is that I have to plug it in when the power goes out, but it's gasoline-powered and I have about 40 gallons stored there, so I'm not that worried about it. My dad has a gas-powered one that automatically turns on in less than 30 seconds when the power goes out.

Yea my generator use to power the whole house, now that fish tank pushes it haha. I want a 14kw standby I think.. that way power just snaps right back on. Might even buy a UPS (uninteruptable power supply) for my controller too that way it doesn't get hit with the power cycling

After my last tank crash and knowing the power was out at that location for over a week I had a local company install a 22kw Generac where we live now. The payments aren't fun, but it was worth it. Both for the tank and the stress it saves when we have a bad ice storm.

Yea i googled and scoured r2r and the general consensus for alk is 1 dkh a day, which I did .9 so that's about perfect! Just want to get them all to the right ratio, then as I add afr I can monitor if it's stable that way!

Keep in mind it's also recommended to break it into several smaller doses throughout the day if possible.

I'm looking at the power outage map, and it's going up nearly 2000 customers every 5 minutes... the wind is crazy up here.

We still have power as of now, thankfully.

Do you have a strong enough kite for that wind?
