What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
Luis,

Thank you for letting us share in this. It looks like an amazing school. What a lovely family you have.
You are all my family too and you need to know what is happening with your nephew 😉

Mike! Your tank is fantastic man. You reach out to a lot of new members on r2r and to me thats very important. The award is more about the person than the tank, I think. Reefing is all about how much joy it brings to you and your family. Each person's reef is special to me. We're all doing something very unique and special here. Your tank is the reason you're here and, why we all met.
My son asked me to enter, and he's proud of his part in the tank. I tried to make the entry more a out all of us than me. It's not anything I've done before.
I have very mixed feelings on the MoM 'contests'. I do think it should be about the person, not the tank. A part of me feels it should be nomination only as that would assume that at least one person on R2R thinks the person is worthy of recognition, other than the mariner his/her self. Another part of me disagrees with me as I'm sure that there are plenty of people on R2R that deserve the award but aren't well known and if they help mainly newbies, there is a good chance a newbie won't feel comfortable nominating someone. If they were there would probably be more Excellence Award members.

Now that I wrote that last sentence it has me wondering, what is the difference between the Excellence Award and the MoM except maybe popularity, or a pretty tank which is quite often more a function of finances than skill? I do think the winners do deserve the award but I feel that it has it devolved somewhat in recent months. That takes nothing away drom any of the winners they are all very deserving.

Ive never heard of the excellence award. I think potm is more about looks.

You just dissed Tim, he got the excellence badge. Sorry Tim that John just did this to you. 😉

I didn't want to talk about this anymore lol but here it is, it really hurt me when the man with the 2 tanks won, rice something, the man has 138 comments in R2R in all his time, how is it possible that someone like that wins Mariner of the Month? Who could he have helped or how many people to be considered Mariner of the Month? Nobody takes away that he has some beautiful tanks, but he won just because of that. People who had never voted and new accounts started voting because his tanks

Ive never noticed the Excellence Award on Tim's profile before lol. I genuinely don't know what it is. But Tim is excellent so THERE!!

My point exactly. Someone has to nominate you for an Excellence Award. It says that you tried very hard to help at least one person and that person let R2R know that you helped, or at least tried to. It is a fairly rare award because most people don't nominate others because they either are too humble to believe they can nominate someone or couldn't be bothered, or, most likely, don't even know the award exists. The good news though is that every person I know that has been awarded is worthy of the recognition.

+1. It made no sense.

True, but I couldn't tell you how many people have devoted hours to helping me with my journey who don't have an excellence award. So the same metric could probably be applied to all awards or contests on r2r. There are definitely more folks deserving of that honor. I like to think my success is more of an excellence award than a badge would be to them, though. With that being said, that 12 gallon ato reservoir is NICE!

Good point Tom! We all nominated @Esobe , Jennifer. She was dying of stage four cancer but you would have never knew it. She was so positive, never complained and always ready to help anyone in need. I have to think she was the only one to receive it after only being on here for a short time.

Well said Tom.

Agreed 👍.
Couldn't figure that one out.

I should hopefully get that soon, been recognized by rev and Alycia a few times.

Man that really sucks. I wasn't around for her time.

I thought in the beginning months of the contest it was nomination only??
Can't remember exactly but I think 🤔 so...
No. Originally there was no nominations. That came after a couple of months.

Bad news guys and gals. Our puppy got hit hard with seizures last night and today. Around 3 o'clock he had his last seizure and his heart stopped.
That's rough. Sorry man.
