Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
That's the 'problem' that guy Rice guy or whatever his name was totally turned me off the contest. I thought it was a nice way to reward some of the many, many great people on R2R that are always here willing to help. I can think of dozens of R2R members, including pretty much the entire smorgasbord, that are just as deserving as the winners but R2R can only do so much. I thought it was better than nothing but that Rice guy win stumps me. I've never heard of him, I've never seen a post from him and while his tanks are pretty for all I know he had a vendor come in, set them up and take the photos. How can someone that interacts with R2R so little be recognized as MotM? TotM, maybe PotM sure but MotM, no way.

I do agree though that as nice as it would be to win a bunch of stuff and get a little 'official' recognition it is not why I'm here. The feeling I get when I help someone, or when someone helps me, is what it is all about.
Agreed. Well spoken, sir!

I always tell my kids that this guy most likely would go broke in the gold mines and wind up "building mighty wharves and piers" in Australia. He's got the skills.

I have very mixed feelings on the MoM 'contests'. I do think it should be about the person, not the tank. A part of me feels it should be nomination only as that would assume that at least one person on R2R thinks the person is worthy of recognition, other than the mariner his/her self. Another part of me disagrees with me as I'm sure that there are plenty of people on R2R that deserve the award but aren't well known and if they help mainly newbies, there is a good chance a newbie won't feel comfortable nominating someone. If they were there would probably be more Excellence Award members.

Now that I wrote that last sentence it has me wondering, what is the difference between the Excellence Award and the MoM except maybe popularity, or a pretty tank which is quite often more a function of finances than skill? I do think the winners do deserve the award but I feel that it has it devolved somewhat in recent months. That takes nothing away drom any of the winners they are all very deserving.
Very well said. I agree

Man that really sucks. I wasn't around for her time.
Me neither, unfortunately, from what i've seen/read she seems like she was an amazing person with a big heart

I knew her in the very beginning before I joined the Smorgasbord. Such a sweet and spunky lady.
Rev asked me to start a thread to kinda do a eulogy for her and so people could their feelings. I have no idea how to find it but it would tell you everything you would need to know and the type of person she was. She was very active on the Smorgasbord. I think I was the only one who knew she was terminal because she confided in me since I went through the cancer thing. Rev gave her a RIP badge.
