I don't take away from you that in the long run they give results but at the time of buying them they are really expensive equipment, believe me that if I had had the space and money at the time I would have gone for that option, but a Po4 reactor that is working super well and does not take up space in my sump that is very small was cheaper for me at the moment

Phosphate reactors do work well, but in different ways, and require gfo in order to run. And that will be a forever expense to make the device functional.

Smaller initial investment - yes. And they do work.

I feed the algae I grow to my tang, also saves me money from buying nori :)

I have been using Santa Monica scrubbers as my primary reef filtration for 10 years

On my current system, which does not utilize water changes or a skimmer, all filtration is biological and natural, with a Santa Monica surf 2 as the primary nutrient exporter

What questions do you have

I have no room for the surf 2.
Just wondering if you have any experience with the drop 1.4

That's why I started this discussion.
I'd like to go the more natural route, which you know I like but need more information as to the working prowess of this one.
Might be the best option for both of us.

I use my refugium compartment. I float the surf and turns the rest into a cryptic zone

You did say the Meridians can go more white right? I do NOT like a heavy blue tank. I run my two Kessil a360x at 40% color during peak hours which is about 14K. Even on my ramp up and down I have whites added. If not, I will be selling my brand new, never used Meridian 35 and either getting another Kessil or go back to halides.

Yeah. I've known that I have a type of lymphoma for about 4 years. My doc is considering starting treatment, so this is part of figuring out whether to start treatment yet.

I haven't seen those, I'll look for them next time, I'm actually a weird guy lol, I can eat the same thing forever lol, I go to the restaurants and places I like and I always order the same thing, sometimes without even looking at the menu

The only bad thing I see with algae scrubber is that they are too expensive, regardless of the brand, but we are not in a cheap hobby either.

I built mine using acrylic trays, pvc pipe, a little pump, and a tote, but it's huge. It sits next to my tank on a side table. My wife wrapped it in burlap and put a lamp on it.

And after about 8 or 9 years, there was a storm. It was not on my surge protector. The surge blew out my power supply and led lid. I contacted SM for a replacement parts, knowing I am out of warranty and asked what it would cost…

Santa Monica confirmed with me the damage (which was my negligence and not using a surge protector), and gave me a new LED lid module for 50% off, and a new upgraded power supply at his cost with no markup.

Almost 9 years out of warranty. On a failure that was not the product/companies fault at all. The man discounted the parts for me 50%.

I will give this company my support any day of the week. It’s a miracle that 10 years later they still make the parts. And the cost today is actually 50$ cheaper than I bought it for 10 years ago.

I will add that he has given me positive feedback on my scrubber, even though I basically did it on the cheap to avoid buying one of his (not that I said that on the thread, but it's not too hard to figure out).
