Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
It is supposedly safer than a net at catching fish. I don't have one, so I can't say either way. But from what other members have said, it's seem to work quite well. Plus, it's made by a R2R member.
This should be required at every fish store. I see them put a bag in a box that hangs on the tank still then stick another box in the tank and try and shoe the fish into it. Then pour the whole thing into the bag. Really is so much easier.

And dogs and cats and occasionally birds and flowers.. lol
Oh my goodness... I should have consulted you before replying to that thread. My wife would have done the same thing.. "uhh... you left out elephants, gerbils, unicorns, peppermint, wisteria and toadstools"... my 'man' brain went straight to food... LOL!

Paul, you have any ideas on how to make a control board that I can swing out of the way to access cords? I'm thinking about building a box and put it on hinges. Thoughts? I would be inside one of the cubbies on the end of my tank stand.

hinges or heavy velcro tape. How often would you access it? you could do an inside flip up too. the door and controls combined can't be more than like 10 pounds though. that's if you just need a small 12" opening to plug stuff in. But a hinged door would be your best bet. but you could split the door too. other thought is a pots and pans style drawer but you would need to have the glides on either side of the sump to have it pull out far enough. so door opens to controls then that panel would pull straight out to get behind it. essentially the whole control panel you mount to drawer glides and that is behind the cabinet door. So the control board is the drawer and mount it 4-6" behind the door for space. just need to have the glides on the outside of the sump and smaller drawer depth etc...sounds confusing.

I can't view your pics... they are just grey boxes.
You could also mount the drawer upside down to the ceiling of the stand so it would be above the sump. Those were links to Amazon before to the below.

If you mounted this as is, you would mod if the wood box drawer by 6”less in the from and 6” less in the back. Then the 6” section in the middle would be like a horizontal shallow box that the controls get mounted to. Then that would pull straight out like a drawer so you could get behind the control panel for the cords. Same as your hinged idea but mounted to a sliding drawer. For your hinge idea to work I think you would need to mount the hinges a couple inches out from the side of the cabinet to accommodate door swing.

I like the swing up door idea!
I’m not sure if it would hold the weight of all your controllers though. Says 11lbs. You’d need to measure the door clearance too for depth of controls. This is the other drawer idea. If you got this, you’d need to remove the green marked sections. From panel and back panel then however many inches to clear the sump when closed. Mount the control box about 4” back for clearance of controls and the inside blue box is where all the controls and bricks would be.

The tank will be supported by the main 48" frame. The ends extend 6" past to make cubby areas on the ends of the stand.

had to go back to your stand build to see dimensions and obstacles. if you modified you end, you could fit this spice rack in there so it pulls out to the front. to match, 24" doors in middle and two 6" doors on either side. the spice rack would pull out in the front and with a single board 22"x24" you could mount the controls on one side and all the plugs/cords/bricks on the other. accessing by pulling out. then on the side you could still put a 24"x24" door on a hinge to access the controls without pulling it out as well. then the other cubby you can save for food/storage etc...

I actually met Gene Wilder. I would spend 6 weeks every summer in Manhattan with my father and stepmother. I brought a school friend and we were walking back from Central Park when we saw a lot going on in front of a hotel. They were taking a break from filming Lady in Red and had the area taped off with police tape. When Gene looked my way I waved him over. He shook his head and waved us over and we went under the police tape and shook hands. I told him I was a huge fan and my all time favorite movie was Young Frankenstein, he replied that they had so much fun making it. A truly humble and nice person, RIP.

The only other one I met was Ted Nugent. Your probably one of the few on here that might remember the tomorrow show . I believe it came on after Johny Carson. We went to the show and Ted Nugent performed and was interviewed. We waited afterwards and when he came out he set everything down and his wife/girlfriend pulled out black and white photos and he asked each of us what we wanted him to write before he signed them. Another great down to earth guy! I’ve watched a couple of his hunting shows on his ranch decades ago.

Also went when my friend was out and the Tubes performed. Wasn’t a big fan but any live performance is fun.
