What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
Well, yes and no? Feather dusters feed on smaller particulates but yes, that means you've got particulates in the water. Broadcast feeding works for NPS usually if you're running dirty enough water to begin with.

I'd say get a cheap one and try it out!
It would be nice, as i have a large area that doesnt get good light and I assume the dendro could do well there! Hmmmmm... very curious
 
@kevgib67 pinch that kev. pinch. that will be such a pain to have numerous small vs a fewer large.

I thought that was how the Susan's got their black eyes? I'm so confused
 
No, not really. Think of it this way, if something isn't correct or flow gets obstructed somehow, that is a lot of water on the floor.
HOB overflows do work, but you'd be better off drilling the back of the tank or finding a used tank that is already drilled.
This is probably one thing you don't want to cut corners on.

I also agree @cdemoss01 depending on tank size/availability/price, I almost think a second tank that you pre drill, and prep everything seperate is a sound idea. Have everything sitting there ready to go, then do a tank swap one day. A drilled tank is sooo nice for your peice of mind. As long as we arent talking a super expensive tank

Edit: you could also setup a temporary tank/tote for the weekend, break down display into storage tank, and drill your current tank. Testing if the glass is tempered is fairly easy with a pair of polarized sunglasses and a laptop

Maybe @tbrown can recommend an overflow. The ones I tried a long time ago were not very reliable but I'm sure they are better today. That way you don't have to tank swap, although tank swaps can be very beneficial and even fun.

I always used an ESHOPPS overflow. The last one I got I don't remember what brand it was. It was oversized so it kept sucking air and losing prime in one of the overflow tubes. I used a spare dosing head in reverse and sucked the air out every hour of the day. That's why I recommend using a return pump that is slightly larger and then turning it down to match as closely as possible.

my flowers only take 3-4 months.

I've tried this in the biocube. I had placed them under an overhang but the jawfish kept throwing sand on it as well. I think it just got irritated too much. They have walking ones too where they move around the tank on a peanut worm.

Can't do a tank swap. 15 years old, parents are already at wits end with tank.

an over flow is just what it sounds like. a small tank below a large tank. you pump water from the smaller lower tank into the upper tank until it overflows and drains back into the smaller one. you just do not want to over fill the lower tank since when you shut it off, everything flows down. so keep you return nozzles high up in the main tank or drill a tiny hole in them to break the siphon from draining into the sump. this would be an unfortunate event if you lose power and the upper tank drains to the lowest point you have the return nozzles at.
