I wanted to run this idea by you guys:
Switching to sump. I wanna try and ditch HOB filter and go with a sump for a multitude of reasons. However I have 0 idea how sumps work and how I'd set one up. How exactly would I do this? I already have an idea of a Fiji 20 gallon sump. Just make it simple. Im tired of HOB because I seem to not be getting good results etc. As I've matured I've realized that hob was a shortcut as a kid. I wanna keep the Remora though, no point in buying an in sump skimmer.

You will need to get an overflow and return plumbed in. If the tank isnt set up with a built in one, you can get a hang on overflow. I dont have any recommendations there though as i have never used one. You could do a diy one if you are comfortable drilling glass and can take stuff out of your tank to work on it.
Then the returns, you can build out of pvc that hang on the edge of the tank, or i think there are some kits to buy that do the same. I like vcs's rfg nozzles and would recommend those. Also recommend some piece of flexible tube between the return pump and the tank, it will cut vibration way down. I also stuck a silicon pot holder under my pump, with those 2 things, it is dead silent. Then you just need to work out what all you want in the sump. Socks, heaters, a refugium chamber, ats, etc.

I buy them direct. I was planning to buy a couple more this week or next but between the unscheduled ER visit and the unplanned rock-into-the-windshield of the Porsche. It looks like Black Friday for anything tank related. Too bad, I had a pretty good shopping cart of goodies planned.

Not through it. We had the car out for its constitutional and a gravel truck, with large gravel in it, decided to aim some at our windshield. Put a ten inch crack in the lower part in front of the driver. I'm not going to mess with the insurance because they want to send a kid-that-couldn't-get-a-job-at-MickeyDs with a generi-shield to my house. I like to keep the Porsches original so a couple grand and a 50 mile trip when I'm allowed to drive again.

2 actually. My name is Izaac, they spelled it with a 'z' so i could go by zack as a nickname, but that never really took hold.

You're going to need an overflow. You can DIY or buy an external overflow easier than drilling your tank. Buying or building an acrylic one will look cleaner.

That's the first step. Calculate the flow you want through the sump and then match the overflow to that - example: if you get the one that comes with a filter roller it's 1600 gph max. Get an overflow that can handle 1200-1500 gph to maximize the roller or go closer to 1000 to save on the roller mat.

Next, get a return pump to match that flow. If the overflow is 1000 gph, go with a 1200-1500 gph return pump and either reduce the flow on a DC model or bypass some flow with a Tee and a valve and put it back to the sump (we can discuss further later if you want).

After that, plumb it up and get ready to go!

Figure out what you want in the sump (socks, roller mat, biomedia, refugium...). You don't need a separate skimmer section if you're going to continue running the Remora so a 3 chamber works or a four chamber if you want a refugium and biomedia.

something you might want to try. find a treat that she absolutely loves. (dehydrated chicken?), and shake the box every time you give it to her or ring a bell etc... Wherever the are they come running when they hear that sound. They do offer GPS chips now too so you'd know where they are but the treat thing they will come to whomever makes that sound.
