What a gorgeous planted tank! Wowow!

The 55g was tropical and the 75g was native. He moved everything from the tropical to the native because he wants to move the 35g saltwater tank to the 55g.

@cdemoss01 Cam, phosphates are fine. The number may or may not be skewed to to GHA like Tom stated. What did it for me was lowering the white in my light schedule. Adding tux urchins. I started with really tiny ones that still ate algae lol. Then I started dosing magnesium. Just some thoughts for you man.

I've never used one but the vast majority of reviews I've seen on it are positive. I think that in general Maxspect makes upper-mid level equipment at lower-mid level prices. Are you figuring on two of them? They are only rated to cover 12"x24". They are also only 65 watt units so only about 15% stronger than a Prime 16HD but probably fine for a softie tank. I would not get these if you are planning on any SPS in the future though (although with your trigger it is kind of a given you aren't).

65vw is fine, not getting anything other than softies and I like a low light tank, just not all blue so therein lies so many of my issues.
I was thinking of the new 65w Navareef by nicrew but it's blue focused and I don't like the nicrew blue.
I love the kessil blue but those things are pricey.
But I heard the controllability of the maxspect was awful.
Don't know if this light has just an on/off switch or not.
But they look slick and come with a mount.

Just to be clear I'm not trying to dissuade you from a sump. They do have some real advantages but they won't cure an unbalanced tank. Besides Paul B.'s thread, by any chance have you been checking out Randy Holmes-Farley's thread?

Randy is going step by step through his build and why he is making the decisions he is. Your tank goals are probably not the same as his but I think he does a nice job of compartmentalizing his decisions. He has a sump on his 120. If I remember right it is 4 44-gallon brute cans, each one with a specific purpose.

I like sumps and they have the advantage that, done right, you can set up specific 'zones' that don't necessarily play nicely together or that cannot coexist in the confines of a small tank.

If I remember right Matt (@Fish Styx) has a cryptic zone in his sump. You need a very large tank to pull that off in a display.

What I don't like about sumps is that they encourage equipment creep and are often filled with nearly useless equipment that is only masking the issues in the tank.

Can low cause algae?

I've run mine at 0 all the way to 1.92 and everywhere in between.
My tank does best at .5, but every tank, Camden is truly different.
Live by this statement and don't chase numbers just go by feel, look and what's in your gut.
And listen to Tom, read his posts
He knows what he's talking about and there is a ton of knowledge and information in them.

I have 2 of them. They are not very bright. I have them at 10% white and 85% blue so it is very blue on my side. Easy to use and seems quite ok but if it is 280usd I would try maybe to find something else.

Yes @cdemoss01 @tharbin mentioned an article or post about higher magnesium and it's effects on algae.
I've since upped mine and I'm having such a better time with algae.

Apologies I was at my first football game and got my first tackle.
Anyways,
I don't wanna rush in right away with a sump. I proposed it becuase I'm tired of the limitability with hob. And I want a fuge just under the tank. I am so so tired of hob. I'll visit those threads thank you for attaching them. Id say next on the list is tests, nitrates especially. I need to get more reagent for P04 Hanna and probably buy a nitrate Hanna. Issue is money is getting tighter due to school starting back up and my job is over so I can't work anymore. Thank you for writing this by the way. Could you just make a list of parts I need for a sump?
1. Overflow
2. Sump kit
3. Fuge light
4. Roller?
