Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
Is drilling easy enough for me and my dad to do on our own? I have hea d of carbon dosing. How does it work?
I don't think I would ever drill a tank myself. I know you will want to tape it and use a diamond bit designed for glass. I would not do it at all if it was tempered.

I noticed all these bubbles in my tank on the film algea and GHA. Good sign?
what's the water temp? I think your nutrients are way too high and it will keep it growing. are you using chemipure blue ? turn the blue lights off so everyone can get a better image of the algae (and clean the glass prior to the picture).

And you want to keep it wet use putty around where you are drilling to keep water on it. I have never done it but have watched lots of YouTube videos about it. I just could never work up my nerve to actually drill one. Lol

If you go to my thread you can see how I did it. I'll see if I can find it and link here

You're right. If it's tempered it will shatter.

Water temp is normal. What makes you think that?

I admit I was a little worried when we did it. Some folks bore a hole in a piece of plywood with a normal hole saw and clamp the plywood to the glass as a guide. And, as mentioned earlier, use water to keep cool

There are videos online saying how to tell if the glass is tempered using polarized glasses and a cell phone. We forgot the polarized sunglasses. Whether bravely or foolishly we guessed it wasn't tempered and Providence favored us.

Not to be discouraging, it was kinda cool. Do consider though how badly it would affect you. When I drilled my refugium failure would just have meant a delay setting up my refugium. There is a risk. Not saying don't do it. Just consider

This was more of a setback than a failure

I cut a hole for the black pipe using the diamond holesaw. Unfortunately I didn't support the glass well enough and it cracked. I epoxied the glass circle across the crack to support the smaller piece.

That's instead of using a drill guide like we did
