Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
I think I need something else over my intake on my pico's HOB. I have a sponge to keep the sexy shrimp and RFA from getting sucked up in it but i think it's keeping the filter from sucking up things it needs to. Any ideas?

Lol every tank has more algae than mine at the moment, so 100%.
Man Paul, you'd love her little 20 gallon. It's twice as old as mine, and is a native Gulf thinstripe hermit tank. She doesn't have corals and has her tank so dialed in that she can control her algae with her light settings. She keeps a short little algae on some of her rocks for the crabs and urchins.
so I guess she does better than you 😜

so the sponge is too much or not enough? have a picture of the intake?

I get mine at Ace Hardware or Home Depot/Lowe's. Usually you can buy it by the foot so you don't have to buy a 10' or 20' roll of it if you only need 3'.
That works for me. Ill talk to my dad about plumbing.

I think it's too much and is blocking stuff getting sucked into the filter.

@Nor'easter Reefer

hoping to get to the regatta this year. I wish they wouldn't do it so late but this year there's no school the next day with the holiday Monday. I'd be afraid of losing the motor.

how about nylon window screen? if that's still too small, there's a plastic mesh that's 1/8" holes or 1/4" holes.

these should work and be stiff enough. .15" holes

edit. I don't think the links transfer so here's the amazon description.

Adjustable Platic Grip Panel Aquarium Fish Tank Divider Filter Bottom DIY Plastic Grid Fish Tank Isolation Board Plastic Egg Crate Tray (Black, 4pcs 11.8X5.9 Inch with 0.15 Inch Hole)

I think this would be best bet.

Here's one without the sponge on it...
ok, its a tube. not a flat wall intake. so I'd try the window screen and find a couple O rings to roll over it to hold it in place. if the holes are still too small, little scissors and a magnifying glass and clip a few out?

That's a crazy idea I think i might have some of that mesh here somewhere i used it before to try to make moss walls in my freshwater tanks.
found the perfect thing. photos to come.

search term on amazon "Aquarium Heater Guard"

I had this in my stuff. I think it was from an old glass heater to protect it. flexible so it fits any diameter mostly. at only an inch opening the holes won't be better than a window screen but 1.5-2" might work. this could have even been a cable wrap? yes, just checked and search amazon for "mesh cable wrap"
