I have it off when I take it apart and scrub it with a toothbrush and then put it back in ( I use white vinegar) and let it run for a minute or two before I rinse it.

I usually put the pump in the acid/water and spin it for a few seconds, then unplug it, disassemble and soak for an hour or so, depending on buildup, then scrub with toothbrush and reassemble, then empty bucket and put in fresh tap water and run the pump for around twenty seconds. Then back in the tank. I don't rinse in RO afterwards, don't think it is necessary.

I just use Tap water and citric acid. But rinse it with RO or left salt water.

Would only interject that the acetic acid in white vinegar can permeate some plastics and cause magnets to swell. Would recommend citric acid instead.

It was the same in my tank. It showed up on my frag racks and powerheads too. Of course, right after that I dosed a couple doses of algae fix and it is completely gone. Along with every other form of algae except coraline. I haven't scraped my glass in almost a month. Kind of crazy, honestly.

+1 on this. I was going to go back and add it but got lazy. Vinegar works well but it can attack some plastics, including some seals, and swell magnets. I use Sicce Pump Cleaner now but otherwise I use Citric acid. I began to question the use of vinegar when I noticed it was stripping the plating off of our faucets.

Probably answered but I would soak it for 20-30 minutes then tooth brush it. Wipe and rinse under tap water. Then rinse with RO before tank return. Mines MP40 so don’t run in citric. I don’t think it’s necessary to run in but nigh need a lot of solution To do that. But I would run it through a pump to clean it after soaking. I just haven’t cleaned my pump in a long time. Haven’t been well enough to go through all that disassembly.
