You could recommend something like a Hydros X2 with a temp sensor and a level sensor. Then they could monitor the ATO, temperature, and it would notify when power or wifi was out for more than 5 minutes.

It's $200 for the X2 and around $100 total for the two sensors.
This actually sounds in their budget. Thanks, have to run

So mainly looking for power outage reports and device failure of the return pump. This clinics tank is alone every weekend from Saturday afternoon to Monday morning. And every night at closing time.
What if you put a camera on it and then you could just check on it occasionally to se the flow is still there?

Return pump failure is more difficult because of the multiple failure modes. A pump can lose power, or overheat but it can also lose head without any outward indication, like an impeller that comes loose on its shaft, or cavitation, a bulkhead that breaks loose, etc.

The only thing I can think of that would work for most of the issues a return pump can have is a level sensor set so that it triggers when the water level is at the level for when the pump is turned off.

This is actually starting to make pretty strong case for a simple Hydros controller like an X2.

I just may have to break down and buy one myself.

If the power goes off, you should get an alarm because the heater will be off and the temp parameters you set wont be true anymore. Is that not the case? Nothing in the app would tell you that the unit was off line if it cometely lost power?
Wouldn’t it need a power source to give you a text ?

When it loses power it stops talking to the Internet. The Cloud server pings it and if it doesn't respond within 5 minutes, the Cloud server notifies you rather than the device itself.

Well it constantly displays a temperature on the app. If there's no power, there's no temperature reading, so the app should show nothing or disconnected. It should be similar to if you unug your internet modem. You should see that you have no connection or signal and this alone would tell you it lost power

I wonder if there's a way to enable push notifications on Inkbird. I know I have them on my Inkbird BBQ thermometers.

The only units that will work during a power fail are the cloud-synced ones that get a 'heartbeat' from the onsite device. Some smart plugs, hydros controllers and (probably, as I've never checked it) APEX controllers. If the unit, like an Inkbird for example, loses power it can't send an alert so you need something that regularly syncs up with another site. Then the other site can alert you that your unit is not responding.
You would see the temp stop being read if you had it saved as as a widget on your home screen though right? Seeing your temperature go from your setting to "off" or "----" would signify a problem.

That's what she's looking for. Something that'll notify her that the power is out.
I understand that. Im saying if your inkbird goes our, you're going to see a difference on the app. It's not going to continue to give a temp reading. At this point, im going to assume my power is out

What you're saying works for sure. It's an easy way to see that, at a minimum, WiFi was lost. All she'd need to do is make sure she has it display on her screen. She'd just need to make sure either she or the shop owners check throughout the weekend.

If hers has push notifications (which it looks like all of my wifi Inkbird stuff does) that makes it even better.

Yeah, it looks like my Bluetooth Inkbird is the only one that doesn't have offline notifications.
