Good luck @kevgib67 ! You've got this. I saw a CBB at my lfs yesterday. Honestly it was one of the prettiest things Ive ever seen in an aquarium. It was swimming around and looked so healthy. The dang fish was pecking at rocks, glass, everything!

Then I started to think, "well the new tank is here". Then I started thinking about some of the stories.... Then I saw the sold sign! He was being kept for 2 or 3 weeks, courtesy of the shop just to make sure the buyer was getting a good fish.

Im glad that decision was basically made for me.

Was it at Kevin’s fish store ? This could have been his.

Hi all hope everybody’s doing well. It’s been a minute since I’ve been on here, but I’m experiencing a bit of an issue right now with my tank. Currently the tank looks the best it’s ever been with the four years that I’ve had it. I rarely test my alkalinity, calcium, magnesium pH nitrates and just kinda go off how the tank looks because it’s everything he’s been super consistent but yesterday I measured everything and a lot of my parameters seem to be a bit off. My pH is at 8.6. My alkalinity is at 6.3 my calcium at 490 my magnesium is at 1500 and my nitrates are at 4.5. A pH of 8.6 seems a bit high annd alkalinity of 6.3 seems to be very low. I checked my doser and it turns out that the alkalinity line was clogged up and it hasn’t been dosing recently. I got it cleaned out and it’s now pumping out alkalinity so I’ve upped the dose and will try to increase it over the next week. Will that help bring down my pH? I’m not sure if a pH that I will cause any problems. Let me know if you guys have any recommendations on what I should do.

I've heard too many stories of 3-4 month old CBB (and other butterflys) dying. It's rough because you never know - it sounds like a lot of cyanide is still being used.

This is so insensitive but I couldn't help it.

Yes, it’s kind of a midday pH reading lights are on full blast tank is sort of in the middle of the day.

Tank looks awesome Parker, well done! Mg and calcium are fine. Tank looks great, I wouldn’t fiddle with anything except very SLOWLY raise alk.

That’s my plan right now is to get alk back up to around eight

Probably fine then as that's the high point of pH for the day, it probably drops to around 8.3-8.4 over night.

Get your alk up and your nitrates down . You really should check you parameters because as the tank ages and coral grows they will need more . How was your phosphates ?

Nitrates down? 4.5 is fairly low. Isn’t it kind of a food source for the corals?
