1/2" foam/neoprene between rimless tank and wooden stand?

I put a 1/2" yoga mat between my rimless tank (with a perimeter brace on the bottom), and a DIY wooden stand. Smart idea or not?

Never heard of a material like that being spec'd by a manufacturer. I'd suggest contacting who made the tank. (Most common tanks with a top and bottom plastic trim don't need a sandwich layer. Just a flat, level surface.)
