1000 gallon tank for a beginner!

Incredible build. I was thinking of a sealing solution for the rock backdrop but it's way too late for any recommendations lol.

Going to start following
Clear pond shield would have been the best bet. I am unsure on the composition on the "rock" if they are real or not, depending on what they actually are could mean a lot of different things. I am wishing the best though. This is a cool build especially for someone just getting in and they are doing great so far.

Well, the rockwork has been sitting underwater in fresh water for 6 years with no detrimental effects to those fish and I don't see anything crazy out of my first ICP. Hopefully that's a good sign. I plan to continue to monitor with periodic ICP's knowing parameters could change over time.

The aluminum extrusion track has been successfully mounted to the ceiling. The bar running the length of the tank can move up and down the perpendicular segments to fine tune where the lights sit over the tank. Now I can concentrate on finishing the design for the light mounts themselves.

Finished designing out my mount in Fusion 360 this weekend. It is a total of 7 parts with a hirth joint (the cogwheel-looking thing) that will allow for adjusting light throw forward and backwards into the tank if needed. It also simply hangs downward like a normal mount as well. The bottom portion is attached to the light itself above and below and is screwed in with #8 3/4 screws and then joins the top-most part that sits on the 1515 (1.5 inch) extrusion itself. They are secured with M10 bolts and a threaded knob to tighten it into position. This will allow me to pass the relatively small 1515 mounts onto the extrusion, but I can break down and move the light itself for access to the tank if/when needed.

I completed the first mount today. It is printed with ASA-CF. Hopefully the carbon fiber will give added strength to the mount. I am pleased with how it looks. Three more to go!

Can’t wait to see these over the tank. Great work!

The top portions of the mounts are finished and installed on the mounting track. One full mount is complete and is installed! Once the rest of the mounts finish printing I will get them up.

This is looking amazing! It has me thinking that 3D printing and lt slot aluminum rails might be the way to go. I'm hoping to be able to adjust each light individually in the x and y plane so would need to modify accordingly.

Random curiosity - how do you plan on cleaning (pulling out and putting back in) those gyres all the way down at the bottom?

Lights look like they're going to be killer!

Oh, the same way I always have had to do maintenance for years...

Brave! I don't even like sticking my arm in my 40g death trap. I always have cuts somewhere on me. @Battlecorals story got me good.

I would go super overkill on your UV sterelizer.

All four of the Quanta Atlas lights are now hung with my 3D printed mounts.

These guys are bright! And hot!

Thankfully the heatsinks are heavy duty. They are very hot to the touch but the lights themselves are warm. Although I have a fan that exhausts to outside to help with both humidity and heat I think that with my small fish room and for the health and longevity of the lights I will install some fans to blow onto the heatsinks.

With the lights now installed I had some time to get some PAR readings. My PAR meter is the Vabira VBR-Aqua.

PAR Readings.jpg

The lights are hung 3 feet above the top of the tank (measurements taken from the lights not the reflectors). My flow was only at about 10 percent from the right side of the picture and moving towards the left. The numbers with asterisks indicate measurements on the sand bed while the rest are from the rock scape. I am pleased to see how much punch these lights have with good PAR all the way to the sand bed. Reflections off the front of the acrylic are helpful here. Given how well the lights punch down I'm kind of surprised that the numbers aren't higher at the top of the tank.

The mount looks great, you did an awesome job with that! I'm surprised they run so hot, are you controlling them via the 10v cables at all? I wonder if they're run at 85% or 90% if it drops the heat quite a bi

This is great data, thank you for sharing! Any reason you decided to mount so high? If you drop them down I think you'll see a pretty big boost in PAR.

You may want a bit more par on the top if you plan on having acros at any point.

I am controlling them with 0-10v from my hydros wave engine. I left them high so that I can still get in the tank when necessary! I still have to be able to squeeze in there although I did realize dropping them would help. I'm not sure if I want drop them for the above reason though. Also I don't have a big enough printer to make something that long either.

Out of curiosity I took my light off it's mount and held it about 2 feet off of the tank. The topmost rock previously reading at 320 read a max of 350.
