I'd say you don't have enough money but then again - dreams differ.

I can make 10K work. The build would take some time since sourcing this equipment requires some luck and timing since its mostly used.

Rimless 6ft 240g from Glass Cages new - 3,000
Custom cabinet built by me - 400
Used sump - 300
Used mp40 x 4 - 1000
Used Vectra L2 - 400
Used Apex - 500
Used Royal Exclusive skimmer - 800
Used Radion G5 XR30 x 4 with mount - 2800
Plumbing - 300
Used Calcium reactor with carbon doser C02 tank - 600
recycled rock and sand - 300

I can lower the price further by skipping on the apex and use Mobius to control the lights, return and wavemakers. Use 3 Radions vs 4 and save another 700.
will still need another $500 or so to buy things like phyto, pods, salt, rodi

So I am right around 11,000 if I go with the Apex and 4 radions.

Buy everything new and I could be pushing 20K easily.

I'd look on craigslist and find a low mileage lifted truck for $9900, I'd then load all my fish chit into the bed, get $100 in gas, and drive it all to the dump! Empty the bed, and smile the whole way home in the truck.

what would you do if you had 10k to make your dream tank. iil start

125 gallon (200$ on craigslist)
I'm shocked that your dream build starts with a used tank from Craigslist.

I would start with a custom made tank in the 300g range. I think I could get most of the equipment for not too much more than that amount.

I would never add it up because I don't want to know, but I suspect I'm approaching $10k in my current "cheap" diy 125g tank. It's easy to spend a few thousand just on neptune stuff once you start down that rabbit hole.

What’s wrong with Craigslist that’s where I got my 210 gallon dream tank and I’m nowhere near 10k. We all have different dream tanks. Also have different budgets and different priorities.

For 10k I would go 72x48x22, around 350g's total with sumps.
I already have most equipment thats transferable but would need a few pumps, powerheads, 4+ OR3 light bars, maybe a life reef skimmer to add to with my 9430dc.
Another 20x20 hamilton for the 600 watt MH's would run 2.
My carx would work to start but may need to build another along the way.
Larger ato reservoir.
150lbs of TBS live rock.
Easily doable for 10k.

I would spend 10000 dollars on loto tickets so I have a chance of affording my dream tank. In floor tank, mangrove beach area, and a solarium overtop to maximize lighting. Id have it go from a beach to ledge to drop off with a reef structure built in the middle of the lower section. Could even mount palys and macroalgae to the mangrove roots that grow past the beach into the open water.
