I love the vortechs and it sounds like you like it to. See your cycle is coming along nicely which is always exciting.

Yeah so far I really like it. I read everywhere on some threads that people couldnt take the noise of it. I have it about half way up and also turned it all the way up a few times and I couldnt hear it at all over the overflow.

Glad to hear you like it so far. I have the 10, but haven't ever had a problem with the noise. I keep my low, but the only time I could hear it was when an old one died. I replaced it (or part of it, I don't remember) and never had another issue. Most people I know seem to like them.

Matt, You may not have the overflow drains tuned correctly if the overflow is louder than the MP40. I ran MP40's on it and they were definitely louder than the overflow. The overflow should be virtually silent. Play with the ball valves on the drains. You should only have to adjust one side and let the other run full open.

Yeah then I need to play with it because they both are wide open right now

Ok I was messing with the valves tonight to slow down the flow going down the overflow and I have it set just right. It was pretty crazy with the fine tuning I had to do with them. Little too much there was too much flow and too little the DT would start to fill faster than it was draining. It is very quiet right now and I do like it but it makes me nervous to how fine tuned it is. What if something were to get caught in the ball valve to restrict flow or algae clogs it a little when Im gone?

I always kill the power to simulate power outages to make sure I don't flood the house.

You could get something to clog your ball valve even when it's completely open. I don't think you need to be worried about that anymore now than before. Do you have overflow strainers that help keep things out of the plumbing?

You have a great setup. I was wondering if you are worried about detritus buildup within the inner part of the rock structure. With the U shaped plan you may get a bit of build up in the middle. you can deter this with an extra pump or vortech. just wondering if you've thought of this.

I will have to look and see. I got it figured out last night to where Im not worried anymore and its silent now.

Thanks. Im actually considering changing the scape around right now. There will be another MP40 is there just not right away.

Going to redo the scape. Have been thinking about it lately and I do like the scape how it looks from the front of the tank quite a bit. But seeing that this is a cube I have 3 sides to think about. Will post some pics once I figure out what I want to do.

keep us posted. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. :)

Will do. Im just focusing on the right side and front view of the tank since the other side wont be viewed as much because of the wall.
