As soon as my wife said okay to having a tank, she said she wanted it to be cleaner a quieter than my last one. So basement sump was the easiest solution, and allows me to have a bigger refugium and more water volume. It's a win/win!

DO IT!! You will be so glad you did.

Check out my basement sump. Link is in my sig. Other than the tank itself, the basement sump is the best thing about my build.

Is @Chriscrna said DO IT! My tank is not even filled with water yet and I am already super psyched to have a basement sump. No bending over to work on anything. Plenty of space to work, and expand the system.

Why is it that no matter how much I plan, and how slow I go, my plumbing NEVER comes out the way I imagined? I suppose it's a little different when your dealing with half your system in the basement and off set from the display by a few feet. I'm pretty pleased with the results though. I used only one or two 90s the rest all 45s. There is not a single horizontal run from the overflow. It certainly is not as clean as the rest of my build, nor as clean as a lot of the plumbing jobs I've seen in most of the builds I follow. But nonetheless the plumbing is done! I do still need to leak test, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I have none. This weekend I am going to get a lolly column, and then start filling her up!!!

Plumbing is an art. Can't even tell you how many parts I ruined before I got it perfect

I only had to cut one section apart and redo it. It was of course the very last thing I did. There are a couple other joints that I'm hoping had a good enough bond to not leak. Only one way to find out though.

The DT is 1/3 full! Had a brute can full of RO/DI that I transferred to the sump. I used the return pump to fill the DT! It worked great, best part NO LEAKS! Check valve worked like a charm too! No I need to give the well a break from filling the tank and water my dying lawn![emoji30]

Yeah my last reef tank was in the city so I was in public water and never worried about it. No I live in the country and am more conscious of how much water I use for stuff like that.
