Still chugging along. 2 years up and running. One big crash last October. She’s still young.Good to see your tank is still going strong
Tank looks awesome! Just finished reading the whole thread. Congrats on the little ones and the tank.
I have the same issue with the brown accumulation on the sand. I use a baster every few days and catch it in my floss, then it's back a day later. Not snoty like dinos, but not very nice to look at either. Have you found a way to get rid of them?
Love that pink leather. I was big into SPS, but since been more focused on softies and LPS like you. I have a lack of time (3 year old) and work that keeps me busy so SPS is out. I prefer the flow and movement of LPS and softies anyway.
Nice work!
Thanks for the reply! Not sure what I have is dinos...they look more like diatoms and dinos. But I'll remeber your advice if it ever happens to me. So many crazy pests in this hobby, it's a never ending learning curve. Thanks! Really you read the entire thread? I’m kidding of course. The colors in SPS are fantastic but they don’t move, I agree gotta see movement. I could probably buy plastic SPS colonies that look just as nice and save a whole lot of $$ and get any fish I want. Any way how did I beat dinos. Long story short GHA. I was over feeding my tank, to get nitrates up, my clean up crew was also almost non existent. I had noticed and read early on that dinos have a hard time in the presence of some macro algea. My dinos didn’t like GHA. They have not come back and GHA is almost gone. I was also dosing RedSea colors which contributed to the Algea. My tank was covered in GHA. I also did zero water changes for probably 6 months. I did also notice a connection in my system between water changes and Dino blooms. I lost some corals, LPS, softcoral, and a gorgonian that I’ve never seen anywhere. I am not suggesting you let your tank be over run, just what worked for me. I also think a big part of it is just letting thing be. If you do your research dinos usually bloom in response to environmental changes, and lack of biological competition. My advice, let you water get dirty, let some stuff grow and just be patient. Patience is hard in this hobby(and with 3year olds). Thanks again for the kind words.
Make sure you get some Masstick for the CBB. Mine loves it and a lot of people swear by it for them.
