12ft Tank Build Planning

Power saving is a big plus, especially here in Aus!
Will be interesting to see if there is a trade off with the less power.

From what I've read they are on par with radions but more efficient. I think the beam on light is more narrow.
150w for Orphic
215w for radion
240w for a8

65 and 90w per light less is huge when you have 11 of them . Upto 10kw hr a day less = $4 per day =$1500 per year

You can always work on just enough lights, then add in some supplimentary bars also, that way your giving a different spectrum to the coral also?
 
Things are moving along. Starting to get closer to the tank delivery and finalise some details.
Saw another big tank recently when I was looking at buying some equipment used. It was offset from the wall by 2ft and the accessibility was amazing. So taking that into mind I looked at my situation. The alcove behind where the tank is going is approx 400mm (1 1/3 ft.) I'm going to offset it and build some false wall panels to enable access to the back of the tank. All the electrical stuff can go on that back wall too.
I'll also move to a external overflow now plumbing access will be no issue.

Chiller plans are coming along well - 9kw titanium swimming pool heat pump then via 150w UV then back into tank (1000gal/hr). They both need roughly the same flow so will work well. Other return will be straight from the sump.

For the sump, have revised the design to be even more simple. 6ft long, 2.5ft wide. 3 Chambers. 3ft roller mat/skimmer section (room for 4 roller and 2 skimmers) 2ft refugium of frag section, 1ft return chamber.

Stand is done, replaced all the fittings with stainless, I'll swap out the feet to something more heavy duty but it's ready to put into place. Tv needs to come down once I finish plastering the room it's going it. I'll add HDPE layer to top and bottom. This is a woodfree build for no issues.

Lights will be orphik natura when I get around to ordering them, I'm thinking 2 rows of 4 or 5, totalling to 8-10 units, not sure yet.

Will run plumbing in 1/2 john guest for AWC provisions with water tank on other side of house, water tank will hold NSW , similar to volume of tank and intention of 1%/day.

Power, will get a sub board run for 3 or 4 circuts, chiller / UV on one and every else split between 2. Or something like that.

Things are getting closer. stand is in place, been put on the backburner for a few weeks while we finish the house - new skirting, architraves, plastering and a whole bunch of paint.
My solution for ventilation has arrived - not really too concerned for humidity, we have a lot of windows and doors with security screens, they are open pretty much year round unless the aircon is on. Ill put a 200mm inline fan above the tank and vent outside, its good for 1000m3 per hour, should be more than enough. Ill add some smarts to it via home assistant.

HDPE for stand has been cut, just need to pick it up during the week.

Still trying to figure out lights - my short (long) list is =
--- 10-14 dalua illumagic x4
--- 3 dalua 90cm beast mode kits = 6 X4 + 6 Vitamini 90cm
--- 4 kessil a500x + 2 rows of AI Grow blades

Otherwise I think things a falling into place.
I am open to suggestions for lighting.

Sounds like a good plan

Have a look at the Quanta lights, I am planning on running mine with 5x Atlas's through the centre, and supplimenting the blues with the Helix Bar's. Seems to be the most cost effective solution at this stage.

What are your plans with flow also - are you running closed loops or just powerheads?
I am in 2 minds with mine, as it will be a peninsula there are limited mounting positions for powerheads, so the plan is to use the OceanSea Wave pumps mounted above.

Just powerheads on back wall. I hate the idea of drilling and plumbing in the bottom of the tank and getting a leak. Would be next to impossible to fix without emptying the tank. Maybe if I created some central weir / overflow style I would do it.

For peninsula I would seriously consider closed loop however - I previously had a 6 foot peninsular with 4 powerheads on overflow side and it was never really enough to reach down the end without blasting the corals with too much flow or if I put them higher, surge and go over the edge of the glass. I ended up putting a wavemaker on the opposite end.

Yeah I feel the same way about Closed Loops, this is why I am planning on using the OceanSea Wave's - your lucky in the sense you get the back wall to use, that is where I have my MP40's on my 6 foot tank currently, and it works great, you dont need a huge amount of power as it reflects off the front glass, mine are set at about 40% which is about the max I run at without sucking up sand below.

Other thing I've seen is gyro on the cross braces. They look like a really good option.if your tank is braced. I might do that with this build.

Yeah that would be a possibility also, probably would depend on how high the water level ended up though unless you could extend the mount down.
