I was contacted by a veterans wife to build a therapy aquarium for here husband who suffered a stroke and was left completely paralyzed. Her husband can still communicate by blinking his eyelids to spell words When I went for are first consultation I asked him we can go mild to wild and as soon as he heard the world wild. He and his wife said that they wanted a large aquarium that would sit next to his bed. They wanted the back of the aquarium to be see through so he could look out his window at the view of the lake. We talked with them at length to see exactly what they wanted in terms of aquascape and tank dimensions but when it came time to talk about corals. He said he wanted it to look like a 60s acid trip.
Tank: 60''x 20''x 36'' star-fire glass peninsula aquarium.
Aquascape: Jester six on Instagram did the aquascape for us out of real reef rock and i asked him to incorporate the BSA symbol as well as a beaver (wood badge) as this could reflect some of his accomplishments as a boy scout leader. (I will post more pictures of this item when it comes in)
Sump: Trigger 39 sapphire. I have used trigger sumps for a long time and have been very happy with them. They are simple and easy to plumb up to pretty much any configuration.
Protein Skimmer : Reef Octopus 200 INT elite. This skimmer is a work horse; i have used the reef octopus elite series on many of my large builds i have done and it always amazes me at the dark skimate its able to pull out. I am also a big fan of the wine bottle shape on the skimmer bodies.
Refugium Light: kessil H80. I have been very impressed with these grow lights in booth the aquarium setting an the horticulture settings. I have used these lights to grow macro algae as well as pepper plant in an aquaponics system
UV: Pentair aquatics 50 Watt High output. I chose this to help combat any of the sunlight from the window that might cause unwanted algae growth. This unit will be mounted externally behind the stand.
Automation: Apex,ATK,Wav starter kit, PM1, PH probe. I am a huge control freak when it comes to Automation. I love how user friendly the platform is for customization. In this build i wanted to be able to run the calcium reactor. I like to do this as i believe it lets me keep a better handle as to whats going on when I am not there.
Return Pump: M1 vectra. This pump will also feed our calcium reactor as well.
Lighting: Xr30 Gen 4 Radion pros. We are going to go with two of these lights. I did get the reef link to go with this as well. I made a floating canopy to hide the light rail as well as to hide the radions,
Dosing: GEO calcium reactor with Carbon doser regulator. I have had great luck in growing all kinds of corals with this setup and I have not found a better regulator on the market.
More pictures to come.
