If your doing mostly SPS then throw those light spread claims out the window. Mature SPS will cast shadows, you need to make sure you have proper coverage when pieces reach colony size.
You’re right, I’m looking into a lighting system that I can add too as corals grow out.

Looking into reef brites for spread instead of T5 tubes and a mix of kessil ax500’s for shimmer... XR30’s and Stratons for main lighting.

For what it’s worth I have my tank plumbed to a fish room in the basement that is also where the HVAC is.
not as big as yours but I have a couple of different things plumbed into it so (on a set of shelves like the one you linked I have a smallish sump, a bigger refugium, and another observation tank. Probably around 80 gallons between them and with plenty of water movement. I also have a couple of 40g tubs for RODI and Saltwater. With the 120g display upstairs.

With all that I was concerned about humidity but it hasn’t been a thing. A quick google search says that a comfortable house would be in the 30-40% range in the winter, and 50-60% in the summer.

And down in the basement that’s right where we are at:

And honestly upstairs is dryer than we like and we have a humidifier (thinking of getting a whole home one).

Just my experience here in Ottawa.

Cheers, Tony

Kessils instead of radions? Those are the big boys
Kessils, radions + reefbrites

Kessils 500’s for Shimmer and color, Radions XR30 blues for spread & intensity, and Reefbrites for pop!

Trifecta..Trinity.. the duck nuts of reef lighting!

I figured the 360s but 500x sure.. They're gonna be stronger than the radions.

figuring out my lighting has been fun

playing around with t5’s,radion, kessil, reefbrite mix.

Seeing how this mix works out. I’m looking for a specific color and intensity with shimmer.

@ 60-100% power Kessil A500X and XR30 together drown out the 4 ati T5 bulbs 2blue+ and 2 coral+

Pretty impressive! Leaning towards ruling out t5’s because of this.

rethinking lighting options now

xr30’s or xr15’s?

3- xr30’s and 2-a500’s on 90” rms track (less cords, less spread?)

-or-

5- xr15’s and 2- a500’s on 90 inch rms track. (More cords, more spread?)

I will have 4 tracks hanging, 6 including the two reefbrites tracks.

thoughts?
