just got mine...

When you guys add the media to the reactor, do you just add it directly above the sponge? or do you put it in a media bag?

Also the package came with the maxijet 400, but I'm wondering if it might be too strong. Any suggestions?

It works great! and I have mine paired with a mini-jet606.

Kigs, the reactor should come with a ball valve to turn down the maxi 400, it is too much flow for one reactor, i just put my media (rowa phos is the best ive used) on top of the sponge, use the ball valve, turn it up till the media starts tumbling then turn it down till its just barely moving and leave it there. i have my maxi 400 running into a MRC reactor full of carbon then out of the carbon into two phosban reactors filled with rowa phos and my 500 gallon system is less than .01. that is all my test kit will read i have been looking into a photometer.

so i just added 50grams per 50gallon as instrucuted, and turned the ball valve all the way up for the maxijet 400 but don't really see any tumbling. The media is barely moving even with the valve open all the way?

When adding a new phosphate remover you want to use 1/4-1/2 the recommended amount to keep from shocking the tank with an instant drop.

With the media you do not want to see tumbling, just a slight break in the surface of the media.

What would be the "break in period" when I can run it 24/7 with the reactor fully loaded? about a week?

I just started mine up the other day but like anything else you want to slowly bring the parameters down and then gradually increase the amount of media to keep it there.

I would let the water test and inhabitants show you when to increase.
