Anyone have a red sea reefer G2 250 with refugium?

I whant to skip the protein skimmer, like the idea of totaly silent system :) whant to replace it with a fuge (if possibel)
I tried to lift some cheto into chamber number two, possibly the algae was dead as it took a week in the mail before it arrived (error in the delivery) what happened was that it more or less disintegrated, floated to the top and over to the return pump. Does anyone have experience with how to set up a fuge? see that the first chamber is made a little differently with a combe. But in the first chamber I have fleaceroller.

Had a very large sump and had a fuge area and skimmer area.

I found that the drains were louder than my skimmer.

Does your skimmer run a DC pump?

Yes, al is super quiet, but the skimmer is not dead silent

Although I do not current have this system running, in the past I did have a Reefer 425XL and created a successful DIY fuge in the Reefer sump in return chamber just before the main return pump.

You can see the previous post describing it here. Although not same dimensions as what you have, this will potentially give you some ideas.
It worked very, very well. It grew macro like crazy. I was constantly harvesting it.
I also had pods everywhere. and I even had to go way down on the photo period as it was deplete my nutrients too much. The most expensive piece of the build might have been the $20 pump (from the local pet store). I dont recall exactly, but the point is, it was not a big investment. And if I did not like it, I could remove the entire thing in about 15 seconds.

here are some additional pics with it installed.
Although there was not enough flow to have the macro algae (not pictured here) "spin around" or tumble on its own, it seemed to do just fine with me turning it over every few days. was never an issue for me.

Nice! I know Red sea dedicated part of the sump to the refugium. my question is really how to keep the chetomorpha in place, so that it does not get swept away with the current and into the return pump.

In my set up, it was kept secure in the plastic container. There was not enough flow to blow it out of the container, so to speak. If hypothetically there was too much flow, you could always put a mesh lid over it I suppose.
