2 x 200 L mixing station

Hi Reefers!

I need a bit of advise for plumbing my (... planned!) mixing station.

I am looking at building a station from 2 x 200 L containers; one for RODI and one for saltwater - I am however in doubt whether the dimensions of the plumbing is sufficient with he outlet of the containers I have being only 3/4" in diameter. I can scale up the general plumbing, but I am restricted by not being able to drill the outlets any bigger as they are too close to the bottom of the drums.

Now, will I be fine doing it all in 3/4" PVC piping, or will this simply not be sufficient?

Normally I would recommend larger piping, but I understand the limitations that you presented. I use 1-1/4" PVC piping on my mixing station (2 - 250L poly tanks with a Varios 6 pump). At the end of the day, there isn't a need for certain flow levels or turn over rate like you may want to achieve in your display tank so you will likely be okay with the smaller pipes. It is nice to be able to put the pump on high to move higher quantities of water while the salt is mixing, but if your situation does meet the level of mixing that you would prefer you could always add a powerhead in the SW container. The limitation on the plumbing size may have a small impact on your selection of a circulation pump. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Thank you that was very helpful! I have found a way to scale things up a bit so I’m gonna go for 1-1/2” pvc matching both the inlet and outlet on my Jecod MDC-5000 pump
