I have like 2 5 gallon buckets worth of hornwort then like a 5 gallon bucket worth of water lettuce then a huge bolbitis
If you claim you have that many plants in your tanks, then you should have no room for the fish to swim around.

Rainbowfish need lots of room to swim, and their tanks shouldn’t be that full.

The plants you mentioned only help filter the water a little bit. If you actually read her book, you would have learned that her method not only involves lots of live plants, but also weekly water changes.

A good idea would just be to use a HOB filter and powerhead and live rock. You don't need all that to grow sponges and dusters and stuff.

Start with the basics and then graduate to more complex. Because until you learn the basics you're going to fail long term

I have some algae on the glass becsuse I’ve been trying to go hands off with the tank but I can scrub it off if I want. It’s got leaf litter for all the microfauna and the eel and cories to hide in

It does involve water changes. Have you read the book? Or did you just try to reference it to me, to make you seem smart?

I don’t do water changes because the plants need food and even with ferts daily I can’t break 5 ppm nitrate
What are you even talking about about at this point??

Basics are....the correct number of fish and size for the 20 gallon, water test kits, water changes, correct filters and skimmer, correct lighting, correct sand .

Not.... Oh this play sand will work, I'm not going to have a skimmer or do water changes or testing.

R2R is against the inhuman treatment of fish. So it is somewhat relevant.

I don’t think you should use the 40g at the expense of the fw fish.

Amazon product you don’t need to do water changes but like 25% every 6 months works

I’m not going to use a skimmer because I don’t see any use in it unless I kept sensitive coral. But if I did a large tank I’d do play sand over lvie sand because it is more cost effective and it dosent have many adverse effects. I’m gonna test nitrate and ammonia but probably not test phos calc alk and mag because I’m doing regular 25% water changes every 2 weeks

Definitely you do not want to use play sand. Play sand is primarily silicate based which will do nothing for buffering & will feed diatoms.
