Ok, what kind of materials can I use besides wood to build a led hanger?
I went to a department store. Grabbed some conduit pipe... brought it to the pipe bender they have in store. Bent both ends at 90 degrees (using the pipe bender they have for sale) and bought some furniture end caps.

I also bought a saw to cut the ends of the pipe off the right length and some pipe attachments to anchor it to the back of my stand.

Very cheap solution. I did end up painting them too with spray paint.

The board across the back is just a scrap board they had as my stand is open in the back.

I want to use a viparspectra, dry rock and a jebao powerhead and macroalgae filtration so I can run harder corals like lps without spending more on upgrades. Also, I wanna make a gsp wall
I am so confused. How’d we get from being adamant about flood lights, live rock with infinite biodiversity, cheap Amazon power heads, and macro algae with only brown softies to LEDs, dead rock, jebaos, lps, and a gsp wall? Why did it take thousands of comments to get going in some sort of sensible direction?

just dont get coral or any livestock including snails until the rocks have been in water at least a week, and you havent been testing any ammonia. Dry rock and live rock can have some die off resulting in ammonia, the length of cycling is a very variable thing and is almost impossible to give you a perfect timing of it
ok thanks for the advice about not getting coral

Ok so I should scape and build up the tank then 1 week later get my crab? Then after that I let it run 3 weeks then I add coral and fish?

I would only add a indicator coral if they gave it to you for free. I say this because throw away Xenia and red monti in the garbage because they grow so fast :p I wouldn’t want to pay for it and have it die though and be a waste of money.

I do feel a little guilty of tossing it but it just grows too fast and is a danger to other corals if not pruned.

No, like i said i cannot give you the actual timing of when things will happen as that is impossible to do, i said at least a week of the rock in the water without anything, after you will need to test 0 ammonia for at least 2 days, then you can add your first fish and crab

Oh ok. I would pay like 5$ for a little bit of it, I will see if I can get it free though

look at stalled cycles on the forum, sometimes a cycle lasts months, so i wont make any generalization that could actually hurt your tank

Ok. If I test nitrate and I don’t smell ammonia does that woek? I only am gonna test nitrates. I shouldn’t have die off cos it’s only coralline but I could also try testing it at my lfs or petco. Does petco not use api? I have a specialist petco

also tamberav is right, xenia, gsp, and (to a lesser extent) monti caps, are invasive and annoying to have to kill later on
