Looks to be a peaceful community fish but idk in 40g, the general rule in fresh and I’d assume salt(dosent apply to tetras or schooling fish) is minimum 6-7x length 3x width
For the puffer?
But yes that is a good rule of thumb as a starting point. Just remember there are active small fish and lazy big fish, hence why the rules can be broken.

A Toby or valentini is great for a 40b. I remember you were interested in them.

+100 on valentini. I had one in my 40 and he was the best. I’m still sad he died. Think I’ll get another in my 120. Coral risk be darned lol

im not sure if there is such a ‘fly. Plenty of other fish that would fit your tank size though.

and trust me man, I get the frustration. I want a blonde naso soo bad. But I’m waiting until I can reasonably afford my dream tank.
I agree, one of my dream fish is a Ceylon snakehead but some idiots think a 6” fish that lives in tropical climate and would be killed by half the panfish in the USA should be banned

Yeah chromis no go in a 18” tank but like with chiclids or mabye tangs (I could see a 8” tang going in a slightly less than 5’ tank)

Go to monster fish keepers if you want to share in the sadness over snakes.
Us Americans just have to suffer because of one idiot.
The problem is that snakes are crazy adaptable and amazing predators. The perfect aggressive fish and horribly invasive. Banning them all was the only way to stop them.

Yeah, kole or yellow in a 90 or so is probably doable, not ideal though.
Cichlids tend to be 10 inch plus 6 ft, 4 foot for most under that.

you best document that journey if you do. I want a pond for koi but I’m pretty sure my girlfriend would throw me out if I suggested another fish based request at this point hahaha
