I have been waiting to set up a tank until I could afford to do the one I really want (something big 150+), but I couldn't take it anymore. So I rummaged through my basement and came up with a 20 gal long tank and a couple koralias. Found some dry rock in my garage, and so far have only had to buy a light and some sand. Thanks to Aquatic Dreams for the killer deals, I now have a tank started! I think I will end up with some designer clowns and stick with
zoas. Maybe do a torch for clowns to host in.

Playing around with some aquascaping ideas:

Final decision:

Adding water:

and finally, the cloudiness is dissipating:

Meanwhile, one of my dogs was not impressed that we were adding more pets to the equation:

Cycling:

I used a bunch of chaeto to jump start the cycle, and it worked surprisingly well for me. It was a pretty soft cycle and it had finished in about 3 weeks.

It has been setup since February 25th.
As it is today:

It is still fishless, as I am saving for a pair of clowns. I think I will end up with a fancy snowflake and a phantom, hopefully by June. Until then it will just be a couple snails and zoas.

these are some of the hardest to capture their true color:

This is probably my favorite coral out there:

Cool tank. I would add bits of LR around the sand as mini islands for other zoa or softie colonies to latch on to. Will this be strictly zoas, or will you also have ricordea?

I've been going back and forth on the rics. I really like the look and will probably end up with some spread around the sand. I like the idea of some small islands for the zoas. As I get more frags I will incorporate places for them to grow. Thanks. I have also been thinking I want to do a torch in front of the small rock on the right.

Looks like it's gonna be a great tank! That macro algae on the right is really cool in there.

Thanks, of all the things in the tank, my wife's favorite is the chaeto! She gets mad every time I trim it down. I keep telling her it eventually will come out, so now I need to find a nice coral she likes just as much (or set her up a fuge somewhere!)
