Hello All,

Putting together my first reef tank 40B that will have a 20L sump.

I’ll be leveraging the FijiCube baffle kit to make things a bit easier.

My questions concerns the sump chamber dimensions…I’ll have a filter sock compartment, skimmer chamber, refigium, bubble trap, return chamber.

Should I aim to max my refug…and tighten up the skimmer and return pump chambers so they simply fit the equipment?

Pics of my current thought for setup are below

I wouldn't change the size of anything - that's plenty for a refugium. Having a bit more space in your skimmer and return pump chambers is never a bad idea (gives you room to possibly upgrade to a fleece roller or larger pump down the road).

Yes, i would shrink the skimmer section and enlarge the 'fuge. I find that the larger volumes of macros suck up nutrients really fast. Gives you the space should you want other things in there too. More rock, trouble inhabitants live sand etc. Think about how you will use it. What else will go in the skimmer section? Likely nothing.
