Once I got the tank stand where I wanted, I realized the stand top was off balanced. I know my floors were slightly uneven but I also than realized the 4x4 posts where the butcher slab was going to sit on wasn’t flat. So here I am in a high rise on the balcony in the middle of winter sanding away at the surface to get rid of the high points I found so I can have a perfect surface :D

That’s dedication! Love it

January 9th 2021 I received my ecotech hanging kit, rms light rail and salt. I’m still on the fence with salt as I usually had great success with the Red Sea blue bucket for my sps but I guess part of the hobby is trying new things too so we shall see how this HW marinemix reefer salt is.

Your tank needs one piece of decor for certain... a MONOLITH!!! Ooo, Ooo!!! and a hatchet fish, and a Box fish!
:D
There's so much rectangular, 90-degree stuff going on with the visuals, I would just have to take it to the max!

Seriously creative and attractive stand design. I was just thinking what it would take to make a "double" version for bigger tanks.

Now I’m completely caught up with everything that’s going on with the build!! Today I decided to take the time to hang up the lights and unfortunately the rms track was a little damaged but I went ahead and sent bulk reef supply an email. Regardless they’re usually pretty amazing with everything and super understanding.

Regardless I went ahead with getting the hanging kit set up to mock everything up. I must say im happy with the ecotech rms track and hanging kit. Love the quality behind it.

Getting it mocked up and figured out where exactly I want it. Measure twice if not 10 times

Almost done! Just need to attach the lights to the rms mounts :D

Late last night I cleaned up the hanging kit lines and attached the lights to the rms mounts. Absolutely in love with how it looks! I still have to clean up the radion cables.

He looks tired from a long day of watching you work. I love sumpless designs so this will be a great thread to follow!

hW salt is great! It looks like we will be getting some good coral pictures seeing the hardware on the shelf.

Glad to hear that! I typically don’t change gear/salt especially when my previous gear isn’t letting me down. But I liked how this mixes so easy and didn’t I never liked the brown stuff I’d get after mixing my Red Sea blue bucket. Im not sure if that ever caused any issues but I’m excited to see how this salt. Worst case, I can always go back!

Thank you! I definitely will be posting a ton of photos in this build thread!

What is the weight limit on the floating shelf?

I toyed with this idea for my setup but was always concerned about the shelf being pulled out due to the hanging load. Brackets help but never found any I really liked.

so each bracket can hold about 50lb as said online. They came with drywall anchors but I did have two of three brackets go into studs for my own peace of mind. So I never wanted L brackets bc I didn’t want to see the brackets hence why I went with these. You do have to drill straight into the shelf with a 1/2in drill bit and it wasn’t super easy to line 3 brackets up but if you take your time you can get it done fairly quickly.

The build quality of the brackets I would say are ok. I was satisfied with me and I can be pretty picky haha. They seem solid enough to hang the shelf, lights and camera gear but would I trust 150lbs on my shelf, probably not. In total with the shelf; I probably have 30 lbs or so.
