Had to throw out my chaeto. :-(

I thought the lighting I had was adequate but I wasn't thinking about how deep that back chamber is since I'm used to seeing the DT with the 4" sand bed. I think it just wasn't getting enough light. It was all melty and gross.

I think I need to DIY a media basket to keep it at the top of the chamber. And buy another handful of chaeto, heh.

I got a little plastic box from wal-mart that I drilled holes in and put a small bunch of chaeto in it for my 10g. I put it in my back middle chamber and it actually floats at the top. Then at night I just bend my lights goose neck all the way down and have the light directly over the back chamber. The display is completely dark, but the back chamber gets blasted with light all night for about 12 hours.

The container idea sounds good. I was also thinking maybe some egg crate cut to fit and zip tied? The lighting should be good (have the two LED fixtures over the back chambers). They grow some really great algae, lol.

Things are happening! DIY media baskets for the back and some new surprises acclimating. I also glued down my first frags now that I'm sure about placement. Pretty scary to put super glue in my aquarium!

So I got a softy pack from Reefer's Direct and forgot to tell them no zoas so I now have two beautiful zoas, lol. They also sent me a gorgeous hulk lepto that I hope will survive in my tank as I love it. I'm toying with the idea of trying to add some kind of cardinal to add some movement.

Current tank params:
0 Ammonia/Nitrite
10-20ppm Nitrate
80° F
1.025sg
7.8AM/8.1PM pH
400ppm calcium
9.6 dKH

Updated stock list:
ORA Neon Dottyback
Stippled Clingfish
Tuxedo Urchin
Peppermint Shrimp (pretty sure the dottyback ate the other one)
Feather Duster
Tiger Tail Sea Cucumber
Brittle Star
2 Black Spine Urchins
12+ Blue Leg Hermits
12+ Snails (limpet, nassarius, turbo, cerith, olive)
Red Tree Sponge (not looking great)
Orange Ruffled Sponge
Several tunicates!

Frags:
Ricordea, Discosoma, and Rhodactis
Kenya Tree
Xenia
Zoas
Green Star Polyps
Clove Polyps
Hulk Lepto

My phosphate test kit came today!! I'm shocked to find they're only .03 in the tank and no measurable phosphates in my source water (I've been using tap water for those following along at home). Still need to get a Mg test kit, and a better nitrate kit. Feeling pretty good about my water quality now though.

Been a busy few weeks! Have added several new corals, and attempted to add two new fish (did not go well--dottyback tried to murder both and my brittle star tried to EAT one and succeeded in killing it). Tank is doing great--nitrates have settled down to 10ppm pretty consistently and the coralline has exploded. All inhabitants except for the poor new fish are growing and spreading and algae growth has slowed down significantly (ignore the tufts of hair algae you see--stupid turbo snails won't clean each other).

Am considering upgrading to LED lighting, especially as my beautiful new hulk lepto is browning significantly. :-( Also it would help me take prettier pictures!

He can have some of my bourbon.
It'll make him feel better when you look at the tank and love it.

Very cool.
You can pm me or tag me on setting it. You'll have more room in the hood too. It'll make it cooler. And you might want a diffuser or cover on the light to keep salt off.

Yea. No cat snacks allowed.

Thanks I might take you up on that! My corals are under PCs now so I know I need to acclimate slowly. I just want to move quickly enough for my little lepto and my stylo.

You should be ok imo.
The stylo is pretty adaptable, the lepto should be too.

It could be young tank grumpies.

That's fair. We just hit two months. Everything else is stupid happy (except for that hawkfish my brittle star ate and the possum wrasse that's living in a breeding box until I find him a home). And honestly the stylo looks great--it had all of its polyps fully extended within two hours of acclimation. It's the little brown lepto that has me worried. And I LUFF him!

To be honest I can't believe how stable the tank has been already. All consistent readings and the algae growing in the back refugium is keeping the DT pretty darn clean. I attribute it to the giant pile of live rock and liberal use of a turkey baster to clean said rock. And twice weekly small water changes.

I also started using filter floss and changing it every water change. So. Much. Detritus.
