Wow:(!.... water flow up at tank down to 4800 liters per hour.
15000 down in sump. Seams like a big drop for 12 feet of head.
20 feet of pipe...reduced from 2 inch to 2 one inch outlets.
Does this seam about right from your personal experience?
That's 6 times rotation every hour...but Triton suggests 10 is that really necessary?

Crazy.. What is the maximum weight capacity for one of those tool boxes?

Specs say 900 lbs. per caster...6 casters...so 5400 lbs.
I have removed casters so it should be even better.
Tank should be less then 2500 lbs.
Miscellaneous items in drawers...250 lbs.
Have also reinforced cabinet on inside perimeter with 1x6s standing on edge:)
I'm German:) ...Granddad taught me to build 2-3 times stronger then you need.

Was hoping not to.
What sort of problems?
Dinoflagelates and things I think. Mainly it just seems as though the systems are "out of balance"... Live rock provides a basic population of the necessary background bacteria. If you don't have that, then you seem to have a lot more swings and blooms and problems.

There was one member with a large system who struggled with that stuff for a year or something and in the end started over, with live rock.

See also any of @Paul B 's threads.

My system, which is only a few months old was started with mainly Marco Rock, but with a few big pieces of very live rock. And some muck from one of the 20yr old tanks at my LFS in the refugium to boot.

Cheers, Tony

I would like to put some live rock or starter culture in but how do you find or pic a trustworthy source?
I also see problems with unwanted pests from live rock and sludge starters:((
My last tank ended because of unwanted pests:(

I'm lucky in that I have a good LFS I trust.
I suppose that you could put a couple of pieces into an observation tank and watch for pests... But we saw a porcelain crab in the tank a month ago that must have come in with the live rock 3 months earlier.

Saw it twice over a couple of days but not before or since.

So I suppose your best bet is to try and find a tank in Calgary that you can get a good look at and see if you can get some rock from that sump or something.

Holly Crap!!!
Have you guys ever had this happen?
Tank and sump almost full of roi water.
Dumped 5 gallon pail of salt in sump and all hell broke loose!!
Smoke detectors go off...alarm company phones...fire department on their way here!!!
Apparently a very exothermic and hydroscopic reaction going on!!!
