Have you done any research on the Triton method? I haven't tried it but I think it would be exactly what you are looking for.
Be expensive on a tank with this much volume

Could be done with a carx tho a hybrid method

Howdy,

So you should definitely not tie your main drain and your backup together at all.
Like you said, the primary drain will have a siphon. That would be broken if you had the other pipe tied to it.

The other reason is that the backup is your backup. If the primary drain gets clogged further down the line, below the tie in, then you don't have a backup.

When are you planning on getting water in this thing?

Back at it:).....water in a week, Will plumb from refugium only to get things going

Nice, better safe than sorry...I understand they very susceptible to white-spot!!!
Agreed!

And it is much easier to remove them from a QT system if you find out they are eating small children than trying to tear your tank apart to catch them.

So....plumbed the piping to basement sump room:)!
Wanted to do all hard pipe...ya that would have taken a man with endless patients and $400 worth of fittings:(
Could have done the cash ...but not the time:(
So here's what I did

You do realize that this is reefing, right? Taking cheap, easy, practical solutions is not allowed! :p

After reading through Mr. Neptune's thread I have altered my plans:)
Thank you Terence!!!
No more separate sump after refugium..
Will use 250 gallon tank as refugium and sump.

More rock:)

untitled.pngxc.png

Thank you:)
I would like to get some epoxy and make it a little airier on the right and not so "looks like a pile of rocks"
But I spent a bunch of time looking at aquascapes and tried to find a scape that will give me lots of real estate but accommodate the fish for swimming room and hiding spots.

Playing with return pump:)!
Tried to load video of pump ramping up...could not:(
Ramps up to full over 10-15 seconds very smooth and quiet:)
Has 10 minute feed cycle.
Did I mention how quiet it is:)))...in 8 inches of water you can here a very slight whine as it ramps up.
With 2 feet of head and some fittings it is still putting out 15000 liters/hour:)
I plumbed so I could have 2 of these in parallel .....will see...how one preforms with 10 feet of head.
