Does anyone have pics or plans for a 29g sump? I will have a recirculating reef ocopus skimmer in it. I'm not sure on the water depth of each section or the pump section dimensions. Currently i have a wet/dry converted to a sump, It's a 75g tank.

Aquabull I didn't realize the size of the sump would affect the rate of evaporation. I just bought a complete 90gal reef setup w/29gal refugium and I noticed that there was alot of water loss/evaporation. Any idea what size sump is good for a 90g setup?

If you baffle off to much or many chambers, only the section with the return pump will "show" evaporation. If the 30 gallons (29) is divided into thirds, the last section will most likely be able to hold only four gallons or so. If filled too high (sections too full/deep), the sump will not be able to handle the static water level that rises with power outages. It can flood if there is not enough back-flow room. Also, if your tank evaporates alot, it puts the return pump and display in jeopardy. So sorry for the run-on...

adamfinke, the surface area, surface disturbance, heat, and skimmer function can greatly effect evaporation. i was referring to the pump chamber probably sucking air on a long day or two without topping off. my 75g sucks up 1.5 gallons or more a day!

J80, an easy plan would be to put a 10g inside the 29. Hopefully your skimmer will fit in the 10g. This is a wier filter. It will hold the water level and pressure the same on the skimmer and reduce adjusting. The overflow box dumps into the 10g. The skimmer recirculates on itself int the 10g. The 10g overflows into the 29, and is returned from there. Then you can use the extra space under the stand for a 10g for your automatic top-off resivoir. (just pump the top-off up, into the overflow, so it doesn't have a chance to siphon and flood). Whew!
