300g Journey

Dude! Is that a blue spot stingray and a bamboo shark?!

I kept those back in the day, and now my kids bug me to set up a Fish Only tank so we can get some lol.

I have a mixed reef now, and I like my cleaner shrimp to stay alive so I have to say no to the blue spot. haha

Like the color of your stand too. Good job!

Thank you! I chose the color of the stand to match our island and we live on a lake and the previous owners went with a lighter beach style for the kitchen/living room.

I believe it’s a yellow stingray and a horn shark (at least that’s what the stores told me). I need to get some better pictures of the shark but he only swims like crazy at night. The stingray is pretty active during the day tho which is nice.

I finally got some orange lens glasses so I can work on getting better quality pictures when they’re more out and about. Stingray is also hard too because he has sand on his back and flings so much lol.

But they’ve both never picked on the 2 cleaner shrimp or any other fish. Super peaceful so far.

The difference between pics shot with the orange lens is crazy

I’m starting to think the only way I’m getting the spots off the tank are by going in LOL every tool and scrubber I’ve tried (minus razors) doesn’t work or you have to scrub the same spot like a mad man for 10 mins

The magic erasers are great but only if you can scrub with your hand. All extensions I’ve tried are meh

Powder tang has not ate anything but algae since being in the tank for a few months. Worried though because still not taking on any other food and getting thinner and thinner

Today was the day we found a sump leak and finally had the excuse to get a new sump :D
Didn't get a picture of it before installing so here's it from the site

Finished installing it only to discover protein skimmer cup won't be able to be easily taken out since my stand isn't 2x4s it's 4x4s. Now to find a different skimmer

Nice looking sump!

I did not manage to make the Bashsea protein skimmer work :(
The return line needed to be higher than sump level and once I saw that there was no way this would ever have worked. My wife was not of fan of going outside stand either lol

The stand is 30" tall which I've found is not great when you start getting into massive tanks and the big equipment that comes with.

Decided to try running 2 decent sized protein skimmers instead and so far that has had 0 change to levels but it has only been a couple weeks so I'll need longer to judge if this can be long term.

Next up is fixing rock work(goby caused a crash no1 was hurt), organize wiring, add more rock and corals

Life happened and I moved to a new house about a year ago. I was not able to fit the 300g to the basement and had to sell it and all livestock. :(

However, in the new house I have setup a 40g all-in-one mixed reef and a 125g+40g sump FOWLR!

I absolutely want to get a bigger FOWLR for the basement but fitting it downstairs will be a challenge and will need some serious planning. Would love to be able to fit 300g+ again but that may simply end up being impossible without major structural changes. This isn't going to be rushed and I want to take my time and make sure it's done right. That's why I'm happy I got the 125 to scratch my itch for now and grow out some of these fish and get them ready for the bigger tank.

Here's some of my ugly rock work for the 125g FOWLR. It's the first time I really tried to form some structures, but I went overboard and hid the putty horribly :D

Well that's a bummer you moved and had to sell off your stuff. The new tank looks great though! I do like Bashsea stuff and living in Michigan I feel its only right to support local business. I had Steve customize one of their sumps for my 180 and I purchase an 8x24 for it as well. Currently the 8x24 is running on my 120 reef. It's not the first Bashsea stuff I have owned, and I love how the skimmers just work no messing around with them. It's unfortunate that you couldn't get the skimmer to work in your last set up. I would have put it next to the tank with a stronger pump to make up for the head difference. I could have put mine in the sump now but its next to the sump I figured its an external right...lol. When I finally get around to setting up the 180 it will go under the stand in the sump.

That's a really good idea to set it up next to the stand since it's so massive. My wife would've hated that in the old house since it was in the kitchen, but since this is in my office it's great and I have the perfect spot next to it.

And yes having Bashsea It's super nice vs my old brand of sump (can't remember) but it was AWFUL. Made this hobby 100x harder and made me want to give up so many times. Same with the style of the old 300g. Never again have something that tall. Okay maybe I'd have something that tall because monster tanks are amazing to me.
